reminder: please make data files play like image files
« on: January 12, 2023, 11:46:30 pm »

Image and Data files are both static visual information and therefore should behave the same when played while audio is playing.

I would like to read imported info files about the music that is playing without stopping the music and I find View Extras too fussy requiring a right-click into a busy sub-menu. I also don't like to use View Extras because if shows my complex [Filename] rather than my clean properly tagged [Name].

The way images play when music is playing is perfect. Please make data files behave the same.

If I play audio then double-click a data file, the data file is opened independent so playback continues.

I'm playing PDF files, but the same should apply to any "Data" type.

If that's not what you're seeing, we maybe just need to find the setting causing the problem.

Thanks.

Thanks, I'm seeing different behavior.

1) Data and image file(s) are imported and tagged with same Artist and Album as audio files
2) Options\General\Behavior\Double-click: Add to Playing Now (play now)
3) Double click an audio file: audio file is added to Playing Now and starts playing
4) Double click an image file: no change to Playing Now, image opens full screen, music keeps playing
5) Double click a data file: data file is added to Playing Now, music stops playing, data file opens in browser
6) Same behavior for all data types (mht, pdf, txt, etc.) except viewing application may change

Try picking "Replace Playing Now (all)".  For me playback of data files is then independent of the audio playback.

Yes, it now works as I would like.

However I usually want to append rather than replace Playing Now.

Can you please make "Add to Playing Now (play now)" behave the same?

I noticed another related issue that I think should be fixed.

1) Assume albums contain audio, image, and data files all imported and tagged with same Artist & Album.
2) Select List Style: Album Thumbnails.
3) Double click an album thumbnail. Instead of adding the audio files to Playing Now MC plays the first data file.

It looks to me like when in List Style: Album Thumbnails the files are sorted by [Track #] and since my data and image files have Track # = null they sort to the top and play instead of the audio.

When I switch to List Style: Details the audio files are sorted to the top as desired.

Why does the file sorting change between List Style: Details and List Style: Album Thumbnail? Do I have a wrong sort setting? I don't see how to make them the same.

Regardless, I think double clicking an album thumbnail should play only the audio by default.
