Submission to YADB question
« on: March 01, 2003, 06:05:34 am »

Before submitting info to YADB, what tags are required to be filled out? Obvious ones would be artist - album - year - name. But are genre tags required? Someone may have different ideas about assigning a genre to an album then what I do.

Any others that are deemed important to include?

Song Name, Artist And Album Name

Genre, Year Are Not Required, But it would be nice.

Willie Nelson Is Country, Vengaboys are not

I ripped TONS of cds only to upload to YADB.
I deleted genre from all songs
The same for years. Because many times the year was the one from the cd out , not the realease of the record.

Now , i assume that your tracks are the ones you have in your collection , so upload it as they are.
The most important is artist- album-track name and number

Hmmm, year should be one of the required fields. Helps with sorting.

I Agree.

I have been going thru all my CD's and adding Genre And Year To The YADB Database.

Re-Riping them, and doing a YADB fingerprint Submit

Track#? That should be calculated by MC. There are two cds I have that could throw a monkeywrench into the database if track numbers were included. Mainly because I do not rip tracks that are blank.

The cds are:

Mushroomhead - Mushroomhead

Tool - Undertow

Mushroomhead has 43 tracks. With 15 consecutive and blank 16 thru 42.

Tool has 69 tracks in much the same way. Many blanks until the very last track.

I see no reason to rip these tracks, ever. Why would I want to rip blanks? Just for track number integrity? Not worth it to me.

Sidenote: These albums show up as incomplete because of the gap in track numbers. I could rename, but would rather keep the original track numbers as is.

It is.

It is done by looking at the files on the disk, and where they are on the List they get numbered.

If you have original cds from music never out before , year is fine.
Now if you reedition of a 1968 album with - as many times- the year of the reedition 2003 instead of 1968 , it does not make sense.

I ripped ONLY to upload to Yadb.
I do not rip my cds , i play them on the stereo.
People would get artist - album- track - track number for the songs they got from Hillary programs.
Not bad, after that to find year is not that hard...

It does if you have both editions though. Say you have the original vinyl and rip that for archiving. Then you also have a new cd version and would like to have that on your drive as well. Then the year of the cd version becomes very important. Chances are that most people will be looking up the cd version and not the vinyl version.

I'd prefer to know the year of the version being looked up. Not the original release date. CDs were not around in 1968. If it were something (original date) I wanted to change later in the tags it is usually easy enough to find the info at sites like AMG.
