Volume Level
« on: February 12, 2023, 03:01:21 pm »

Hi,
After a move and having replaced a crashed computer.  I've been trying to re-set up my system.  My new computer for jriver is an apple M1.  I can't seem to get any volume out of my speakers.  Yes, I can hear 'something' but faint.  I have read the wiki on volume.  I've tried audio calibration but can certainly not get 83db even with the slider at max.

Would appreciate any thoughts.

Bruce

Mac M1 mini, USB output via dac via digital coax cable.

Bruce I run MC on a Mac mini M1 and that is clearly not right. What DAC are you using for your coax out, and how are you bringing the coax into your stereo system?

I'm using an older arcam dac.  USB to the dac and digital coax directly into my preamp.  I've double-checked the connectors and even tried a different input on my preamp.  The whole thing is strange, as I've had this or a similar setup on other computers (pre-crash) and had no issues. It's not like it's a complex setup.

OK, and in Media Center audio Device Settings you have it set to adcam [Core Audio]? And then for your volume output you have it set to "Internal Volume?" And if so, you have the volume up all the way?

try : for volume mode - Disabled Volume, will get full volume
check volume in  Settings: 1. Sound and 2. Audio Midi Setup
I wonder if your DAC has settings for volume that are externally controlled?

Thanks, everyone, for your comments.

I switched my DAC from USB 2.0 to USB 1.0 and it worked.   My old, old windows computer ran fine with USB 2.0.  I need to look into pros/cons, but I have volume levels that are normal now!

Needed to switch my DAC to use USB 1.0
