TV Anywhere?
« on: April 28, 2023, 02:26:04 pm »

I’m in a community where the cable TV is included in the dues.   I also have two antennas pointing north and south … both with HD home runs.  One home run picks up ATSC 3.0 stations in Tampa and they come in strong.

I can see how to incorporate the home runs into MC but I couldn’t find TV Anywhere capabilities with ESG for both TVE and local.

Am I correct?   I’ve been using the APP Channels which has all of the above.

JRiver MC doesn't have TVE capabilities.  However you can import the channels server via a m3u playlist, as well as the guide.

The m3u playlist can be set to:
Code: [Select]
http://x.x.x.x:8089/devices/ANY/channels.m3u?format=ts
and the EPG can be set to:
Code: [Select]
http://x.x.x.x:8089/devices/ANY/guide/xmltv?duration=1209600
Where x.x.x.x is the IP Address of the Channels Server.

For the guide, just choose XMLTV and when it asks for the file location, use the above.  The first link is set during TV setup, but I don't remember exactly where at.  It has been a while since I have messed with it.

I am confused on what you are wanting to do? What is TV Anywhere? What is TVE? What is ESG? What is APP Channels?

Using MC Server > Client setup I can view the local tv guide, watch live tv, recorded shows, access all my music and photos, etc from anywhere on my home network. And do all of the same outside my home using port forwarding on my router.

TVE is shorthand for TV Everywhere.  It is a technology that TV networks use to stream live TV.  An example would be cnn.com.  When you go to cnn.com, there is a live TV link, which allows you to log in with your TV Provider (Cox, Youtube TV, Spectrum, etc).  Once you have verified that you are a subscriber then you can watch live TV from the cnn website.

Channels is a DVR application that will work with TVE websites.

My assumption was the 'ESG' was just a typo for EPG.
