boot IdPi from usb drive

While we are trying to resolve mounting my nas to the IdPi, how can I boot from a USB drive? I have an argon m.2 case which connects an m.2 ssd to the pi via usb.  I had this set-up working under the rasbpi OS.  How do I do this with IdPi set-up?
