Since I upgraded from Media Center 29 to version 31 I can no longer rip CD's. I now get an error that says "The output directory could not be created for one or more files". I've even uninstalled and reinstalled J River Media Center 31 and I still can't rip any CD's. This used to work perfectly on Media Center 29 all the way back to version 15.

Does anyone have a solution to this problem?

I'm on Windows 11 Pro, 22H2

Make sure you're using at least 31.0.10:  https://jriver.com/download.html

Check your File Locations settings.

Yes, I'm using version 31.0.10. Yes, I've checked my File Locations settings. Nothing has changed in my settings between version 29 and 31. Ripping worked fine on version 29. It doesn't work on version 31.

The only thing that's different is the version number of J River Media Center. On version 31.0.10 ripping doesn't work but it did work on the older version 29.

I fixed it by disabling the new Windows Security feature of "Controlled Folder Access".

I think it's a new feature of Windows 11 22H2 and I must have enabled it at some point thinking it would make my computer more secure. What it did was actually to block common uses of my computer like ripping CDs.

Controlled Folder Access has been around since the beginning of Win10.  Maybe you turned it on, or...  maybe MS did it for you, cuz well, they know much better than all us idiots how we should set up our own computers/security. ;D  I am on Win10 and Controlled Folder Access is not turned on by default, but maybe it is for Win11
