MKV audio playback via MC28 for Mac?

We've got an old Mac that's "stuck" more or less at the macOS Sierra OS (10.12.6) level.  I know that JRiver MC 28 for Mac will run on this particular machine, but my question is what one would have to do to playback MKV multichannel audio files via MC 28 for Mac?

MacBook Pro 17 (early-2011) and MacBook Pro 15 (mid-2015).  The older MBP17 is operating via macOS Sierra 10.12.6, while the newer MBP 15 still operates via OS X El Capitan 10.11.6 and both machines are still as stable as a couple of rocks.
