How Licensing Works
« on: March 18, 2024, 02:09:56 pm »

Please make sure you:

1.  Download and install MC.

2.  Restore your license.  The version of the license must match the version of MC that you have installed.

Please read this:
https://wiki.jriver.com/index.php/Restoring_a_License

Any license should also work with the latest builds of the previous version.  For example, an MC33 license will also work with MC32.0.58 or higher.

Still have questions?

Hallo,
i have the license for MC 18 and 31.
Before i upgrade to 32...here is an important question:

I am using an old Asus EEE Top as first Player. (Running at the moment Mc18. Mc 31 is running on a modern laptop)

The newest Versions will not work on this old PC.

How can i buy / upgrade to a version between 18 and 32?
For example 23?

Please help

You can only buy a license to whatever the latest version of Media Center available is, which right now is Media Center 32. You can't buy licenses for older versions like Media Center 23 nor will a Media Center 32 license work in Media Center 23.

Humor me.
I inadvertently bought a Master License for MC32. What is the advantage of having a Master License? I'm not quibbling about money. Mainly I want to know if I can install it on my laptop too.

Master licenses allow you to install and use MC on Windows PCs, Macs, Linux PCs and SBCs like Raspberry Pis, etc. with a single license. JRiver graciously allows users to use their license on their PCs in their household, within reason of course, so installing on your laptop too is fine.

If I buy the Mac license, can I install it on more than one Mac in my home, or is it limited to a single machine?

A license is good for all the machines you own, within reason.

Fair enough!  Yes I could see someone abuse this but to be clear, I'm talking about two or three machines in my household at once.
