Auto import audio analysis

I run auto import occasionally and I'm puzzled by what MC is doing during the audio analysis portion of the process. I have a large library of almost a million audio files. When I run the audio task needs audio analysis playlist it only comes up with a reasonable number of files, all of which are recent imports that do need analysis. But when I run auto import MC will tell me it's analyzing some 3-4 hundred thousand files. Any idea as to why the discrepancy? Is it analyzing for waveform perhaps?
