Download Universal Silicon/Intel 64 bit build
https://files.jriver-cdn.com/mediacenter/channels/v33/latest/MediaCenter330022-Universal.dmg
(minimum requirement MacOS 10.13)

33.0.22 (9/13/2024)

1. Changed: Added new command ("showtracks") for Playing Now Popup images that will popup a list of Playing Now tracks and allow selecting one to play.
2. Changed: Optimized loading of the playback engine so it will not load all the input plugins on first play or import.
3. Changed: Images in Playing Now Popup can be hidden for certain playback states.  Updated Control skin to show pause or play button as appropriate.
4. Changed: When a client streams live TV from the server, the OSD "Programs" menu will show current and next program names, instead of just the channel name, to be consistent with the behavior when using a local tuner.
5. Changed: Method of grabbing and registering file associations for MacOS. Please report any regressions.
6. Fixed: When a filename was pushed from MacOS to MC (like when dropping file(s) onto the MC Icon in the dock) it wasn't being converted to pre-composed UTF-8.
7. Changed: Disable animation of tooltip popups to prevent having to grab screen contents to create a fade in.

33.0.20 (9/6/2024)

1. Fixed: Context menu for Playing Now Popup would sometimes show when clicking on transparent part of an image.
2. Fixed: 3-Track popup skin would show hand cursor when there is no next or previous file.
3. Fixed: YouTube in Theater View could show duplicates or non-playable clips in some cases.
4. Changed: Theater View scrolls a file at a time when pressing page up and page down on the rollers when a file is zoomed into.
5. Changed: Updated Polish translation (thanks Fresta).
6. Changed: Tweaked channel mixing some more.
7. Changed: Rating in Playing Now Popup can now use custom images (see Wiki).
8. Changed: Playing Now Popup display: do not show for WDM playback, add option to show for video files, show on track change when stopped.
9. Changed: Atmos codec names have been changed back to the old format of "TrueHD Atmos" and "E-AC3 Atmos".
10. Fixed: Tuning the channel mapping for inputs and outputs above 8 channels (feedback appreciated).
11. Fixed: Theater View play all selections were not working for the last few builds.
12. Changed: Theater View returns no files instead of all the files when nothing is selected when querying with MCWS.
13. NEW: Metadata will be saved to XMP block in HEIF/HEIC images.
14. Fixed: The new playlist expressions would crash if they couldn't find the playlist (now it throws nice errors).
15. Changed: Custom colors can be specified for tooltips in Playing Now Popup (see Wiki).
16. NEW: EXIF data will be editable in HEIF images.
17. Changed: Searching options for things like "Disk Writer" work better (they had a backslash in the name so weren't being found).
18. Fixed: WMA audio files did not play properly since 33.0.2.
19. Changed: 3-Track skin for the Playing Now Popup now always goes to the previous track when clicking on the thumbnail.
20. Changed: Now can specify output file name for Playing Now Popup.
21. Changed: The video playback OSD is drawn through JRVR to minimize window management interference.
22. Fixed: Context menu for Playing Now Popup would sometimes show when clicking on transparent part of an image.
23. Fixed: 3-Track popup skin would show hand cursor when there is no next or previous file.
24. Fixed: YouTube in Theater View could show duplicates or non-playable clips in some cases.
25. Changed: Theater View scrolls a file at a time when pressing page up and page down on the rollers when a file is zoomed into.
26. Changed: Updated Polish translation (thanks Fresta).
27. Changed: Tweaked channel mixing some more.
28. Changed: 10 channel is now 5.1.4 and 12 channel is 7.1.4.  JRSS does not currently fill the height channels.
29. Fixed: Incrementing files in Theater View from the roller with page up and page down did not work nicely in thumbnail lists.
30. Fixed: There would sometimes be a crash if hovering over a missing skin image in Playing Now Popup.
31. Changed: With a client streaming live TV from the server, the behavior of changing channel using OSD menu is now consistent with that when playing live TV using local tuner, i.e. it will require pressing the Enter key to activate the change.

33.0.15 (8/27/2024)

1. NEW: Added PlaylistAdd and PlaylistRemove expression functions.
2. Changed: Playing Now Popup output files are generated when manually showing it.

Bob - after reading about HaWi's problems with detaching a window https://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php/topic,139700.0.html  I thought I would see what would happen if I used the Detach Window option in Sequoia.

Thankfully I was always able to maintain "full control" over MC33.0.22 in Standard/Cover and Theatre View but not Display View, when I detached the Display Panel.

After having detached the Display Panel, playing a couple of tracks and re-attaching the Display Panel the only problem/snag I encountered was in Display View. In Standard, Cover and Theatre Views the Display Panel Right-Click Menu was always available. But in Display View the right click menu was replaced by one that was not an MC Menu and not in the skins colours; because the only option available was "Reload" on a dark grey background; to me it looked like the OS had replaced the MC Menu with one of its own.
N.B. The Display Panel right click menu misbehaves in Display View regardless of which view the Display Panel was detached in.

Thankfully restarting MC33.0.22 restored MC's normal behaviour in Display View.

Another oddity happens if you detach the Display Panel when in Display View - MC immediately switches to Standard/Playing Now View with the detached Display Panel centred on top of the  main MC window. Thankfully hitting the Yellow, Minimize window, button drops the main window down to the toolbar leaving just the detached window on the screen.

Is the bottom line that the behavior is different in 33.0.20 and 33.0.22 ?

I think it's somewhat useful but maybe there are just too many issues with display view on Mac. Might be best to take it back out.

Today I upgraded my Mac to macOS 15.0 (Sequoia).

I previously installed MC version 33.0.22 (before the upgrade running macOS: 14.6.1).

I’m happy to report MC version 33.0.22 continues to run fine after the upgrade. MC did prompt me for some additional privacy settings, but I followed the prompts and everything was fine.

Oops - I did it again it was MC32.0.22 I was using when I discovered that detaching and then re-attaching the Display Panel Window resulted in the Display View right-click menu being hijacked/replaced by the single option "reload" option one.

If the Display Panel is left attached then Display View behaves perfectly so it is probably the "Detach Window" option that should be removed and not Display View.

Bob - I've got some more bad news, this morning I tested MC32.0.2 with the Release Version of Sequoia and that weird right click-menu with only a "Reload" option was the only Display Panel right click menu available in Theatre View; which of course triggered the same misbehaviour in Display View.
Thankfully restarting MC resulted in Display View regaining it's right click menu and continued to behave provided I did not deploy Theatre View

I'm not sure if MC32.0.22 or Sequoia is responsible for this oddity, but one of the times when I exited Theatre View, I'd switched the skin TV was using from Obsidian to Acajou, there was a transparent black border, its width/height was similar to the height of the Apple Toolbar, just below the Apple Toolbar and around the other 3 edges of the screen and when I minimized MC was still present around the edges of the Desktop. Rebooting the mini got rid of it.

But I've got some pretty good news in respect of the Benchmark :-
The OS still has to take it's shoes and socks of when doing maths; i.e there is no improvement.
But the Image and Database scores have increased by around 2000 points,
Plus the overall score is up - in the Benchmark thread you reported  a score of 5585 and I got one of 6541

This morning I got a Score of 7433 and 5 minutes later, I'd left MC standing doing nothing, I got a score of 7609  ;D

The reload only right click menu is usually associated with webpages. Do you have one as part of that view?

Not sure why the math scores are low, maybe something to do with intel vs arm math support.
On my mini I usually start the activity monitor upon start. It is often using CPU for quite a while after booting then settles down. Not sure what's going on, I tried looking at the processes as that's happening, I think it's system processes....

That's the webpage for the trackinfo. I don't really know if that can be disabled. I've seen it in every version.

The permission form seems a bit over the top. When we looked at the code the only thing MC is doing there is to get the underlying text for blurring effects on the tooltip popup. If you turn off tooltip popup transparency in MC's settings does that stop the OS from asking for that permission?

Tomorrow I'll start up MC change that setting, close MC down, remove the existing OS permission then restart MC to see if the request to change the OS permissions pops back up

I'll also check to see if that Strange right-click Menu puts in appearance if I run MC without a TI.

The thing that had me slightly amused by that form was the "Allow for 1 Month" option.

« Reply #18 on: September 18, 2024, 02:40:43 am »

Bob - This morning I tested MC33.0.22 + Sequoia with the Popup transparency set to Disabled and got some mixed results.

After firing up the mac-min I opened MC and changed the setting for the popup transparency to disabled and then closed MC.
I then went to the relevant system settings page and removed MC33's permissions for both "Screen and System Audio Recording" and "System Audio Recording Only"
When I re-opened MC33 it did not ask me to grant either of those permissions.

I then conducted two series of tests, one without a TI being used and one with the TI being used and got mixed results.

For both sets of tests if I stayed away from deploying Theatre View MC behaved properly in every view I deployed, but if I deployed Theatre View the "random mayhem" started.
Theatre View without a TI - after negotiating to Audio - Playing Now and inducing the Playing Now Window/Panel to put in an appearance there was no right-click menu option visible but the act of using a right-click induced random problems in Display View.
Theatre View with a TI - as with popup transparency enabled TV opened with the TI visible, preventing any navigation in TV, and as with previous tests using a right-click induced problems in Display View.

Some of the random problems/odd behaviour I encountered in Display View:-
No right-click menu, either the MC or the "Reload" only one was present,
The right click menu popping up behind the main MC window, if I right-clicked down near the bottom of the display panel the bottom of the MC right-click menu became visible just below the MC Window.
When using a TI - clicking on one of the TI's "Search for..." options either caused the screen to momentarily flash, or a Safari page would open with it's toolbar above the MC Window but the rest of the page, its content, was behind the MC Window
When using a TI the TI remained present in the upper part of the screen when I switched to any of the options in the tree.

Conclusions:

If Popup transparency is disabled MC does not require any additional permissions.
