MC33 crash
« on: September 24, 2024, 01:49:39 pm »

While trying to recreate my tabs, which always get lost when I quit out of MC33 on my Mac Studio I got a crash.
Upon re-starting MC33 I got a black screen. After selecting a View from the tree I noticed that there was no way to add another tab (the little space on the right side of the tabs was gone, see screen shot).
Only when I clicked on START in the tree view did I get that back and every time I try to add a new tab I get a black screen which I have to remedy by clicking on START in the tree again.
Log and crash report are attached.
EDIT: It would be great to have another way to add new tabs if that's at all possible.

What view is that? I've never seen it before.

Nor have I but I also have never seen an MC Skin with a Purple "Close Button" and a Blue "Minimise Button"

Specifically how do you get tabs up top like that?

It's a Standard View and the skin is Pearl Bailey with Skin Effect (flip red and blue).
WRT the tabs, I don't know. Ever since there have been tabs in MC they looked like that for me. I have attached a full screen shot to illustrate. Maybe I have something funky in my settings?
BTW, they also look like that in the Linux version of MC.
Many thanks for looking into this.

I am happy to report that fully quitting MC33.0.22,  updating to .25 and opening again did preserve my tabs. The only thing I changed before I quit .22 was I change the Options/Startup/Run on Mac Startup from Media Server to Media Center and Media Server.
So I don't know if the issue was fixed in .25 or it was just the Startup mode (Media Server only) that screwed with the tabs.

Oh, that's really interesting, I'll check and see if Matt thinks they might be related.

Does it matter how you exit the program?

I was seeing tabs go strange once in a while, but then I started trying to debug and it's not happening!

So there's a problem somewhere, we just need help tracking it down.

Thanks.

We'll try a fix for a coming build.  We were trying to defer creating the startup views, but then other views got created causing problems.  We'll just make the program create the startup views when it launches in server mode.  Please let us know how it works once a new build ships.  Thanks.

I worked some more and I think we can still defer view creation if we add some extra checks when the views get validated.  It's working on Windows now.  Let me know how Mac works once there's a build.  Thanks.

If I just exited MC but left the Server running then the tabs stayed. Any form of completely quitting MC and Server lead to the tabs issue. However, since I am now loading both MC and the server at Start-Up the tabs load correctly.
