MC32 missing dependancies in mint 22
« on: November 01, 2024, 10:50:03 am »

Hi, I upgraded to MC32 in May running on mint 21.3 and its been fine, Unfortunately I’ve had some hardware issues and have had to put in a new drive so I installed the latest version of mint and when I try and run the MC32 .deb file I get the following error : dependency is not satisfiable: libwebkit2gtk-4.0-37. I’ve spent quite a while trying to find and install this and failed! I’d appreciate any help you can offer, I have a dedicated PC which only runs JRiver for audio so I can always go back to mint 21.3 or use another distro?

 I’m long term user of Media center, first on windows and then on linux mint for a few years now. I only use MC for audio and its always performed great. There have been a few issues over the years where I have had to reach out to this forum and I appreciate the help.

Thanks

Make sure you're using the Noble repository which provides the needed dependency if you added the JRiver repository manually. Otherwise the installJRMC script would be the recommended way to install MC on Linux as it should automatically handle all this for you.

Just make sure you add --mcversion 32.0.58 to the command when using it to install MC32, otherwise without specifying MC32 it'll automatically install the latest version of MC available, which right now would be MC33.

Thank you for the quick response. Just to be clear, do I add the version at the end like so

curl -O https://git.bryanroessler.com/bryan/installJRMC/raw/master/installJRMC &&
chmod +x ./installJRMC && ./installJRMC --mcversion 32.0.58

Thanks

Hmm, that should work so could you paste the output of:

./installJRMC --mcversion 32.0.58 --debug
./installJRMC --mcversion 32.0.58 --mcrepo noble --debug
./installJRMC --mcversion 32.0.58 --mcrepo noble --install local --debug
./installJRMC --mcversion 32.0.58 --mcrepo noble --compat --debug

...in that order, for the commands that fail (pastebin)? The last command should work regardless, but Mint typically shouldn't require --compat.

Yes. Probably a good idea to add --debug too like mentioned above (the first command Bryan posted is probably the best one to try first) to monitor for any issues during the process.

Hi, thanks for your help with this, didn't work first time, ran with dbug and it crashed. Nothing to do with MC32, It was hardware. I've built a custom player, fan-less with separate  linear power supply's for the drives and main board. I have striped down OS and MC32 on a small drive and my FLAC files on a 2tb drive. Turns out I had a dodgy connection to the power supply! as soon as that was fixed I started again with a clean install and it worked a treat, no drama.

Appreciate the great support. Mark
