I have some mp3's with quite a few clicks and pops in them, so I want to clean these up.
I found a depopper/clicker program that does that trick quite well, though only with .wav-files.

As I understood from another thread, it isn't wise to decode mp3's to .wav and after declicking encoding it back to mp3 again (loss of quality).

Is that correct?
If yes: does someone know of a program that can do the trick with mp3-files?

I use it mostly for cleaning wavs I've ripped from vinyl, but also handles mp3s without transcoding.

ACL gives you the option to record either through your soundcard or through Total Recorder (in my case). Also permits settings at  44.1 or 48 khz or lower, depending on yr sound card or program.

I set the audio level through the volume controls. Don't believe ACL does it automatically. However, ACL allows you to monitor input and adjust for clipping before you record, through parallel displays one for each channel, so not a problem.

Works well for me. Pretty good at eliminating sound artifacts, though at max settings it does muffle the audio. Haven't tried it for heavy duty popping.

i do not think there is a program doing automatic level settings.
Maybe it is just something you can not do ,who know?

I just do not like to put the arm at different places on the lp.
I allways play full  side .And my 25+ years lps are still in mint condition.

I never did cassettes ,but to set the level must be a pain in the a..

You do not have any problem with the TotalRecorder driver?
I understand that TotalRecorder is set default on your system
I had some with ME. Now under 2000 ,i have to try and maybe to upgrade to the last version.
I bougth it years ago

$50 isn't cheap, but most of the audio tools are even pricier. It does the job.  So does Total Recorder. Never had a problem either with 98 or XP Home.

So what would we need to add to the sound recorder in Media Center to persuade you to use it instead of Total Recorder? What are the most glaring omissions?

Zevele, have you tried the auto volume adjustment in Media Jukebox/Center?

TotalRecorder has nothing to do with ripping LPs or tapes.
It is only that TotalRecorder install a driver.
If you use it often ,better to set it default . To get automatic rip level - for stream- as well.

Now ,concerning ripping stream  TotalRecorder and Zinf -ex FreeAmp- have AN HUDGE PLUS :
They set the level volume automatic.
Zinf works with ShoutCast and MP3.com.
You get the mp3 rip to your hardrive by just playing the stream. Buffering not a problem ,you do not get them in the mp3.
TotalRecorder can record any stream in the same way - well look like it is not working with Rhapsody.

Concerning ripping lps. There is many posts from me saying that ,if yours LPs in mint condition ,you just need ONLY MJ/MC recorder.
You rip it easy , semi auto volume set , seach for LPS infos and enter the time of the songs for get a file for each.

I may be wrong ,but ,as i said few times here ,i do fell that the best sound you get is with MJ/MC - againts MM ,DBpowerAmp and few others
I had a lot of problems with TotalRecorder on ME.
I do not have it now on my 2000  install.

If MJ/MC one day with the same automatic level ripping for radios ,i would never install it again-TT i mean-

A fonction like Zinf would be enought= you get a rip to the format of the rip -128 kps for MP3.com-.
You cannot set to another format
