Media Center 9.0.104 beta
« on: January 28, 2003, 01:34:47 pm »

Media Center 9.0.104 beta is available.

Many things will crash and not work.  If that worries you, please wait for a couple of weeks.

ftp://ftp.jriver.com/pub/downloads/music/MediaCenter90104.exe

Changes

1. Changed: MEGA-ME skinning engine optimizations -- some controls draw up to 6 times faster.
2. Changed: Lossless JPEG rotation faster and more robust.
3. Fixed: Images with Unicode names were not handled properly by Media Center.
4. Fixed: Customize toolbar dialog would not paint correctly with MEGA-ME skinning enabled.
5. Fixed: Skinned scrollbars would not respond to quick left quicks on the arrows well.
6. Fixed: Scroll size for icon lists was too small.
7. Fixed: Double click would only transfer one file to Playing Now instead of the entire list of files.
8. Changed: Changed back so selecting no files shows track info for all files on right.
9. Fixed: Deleting files would cause a Unicode layer crash on Win9x / ME.
10. Changed: Added "Limit..." to search modifier wizard.
11. Fixed: Search control would not let you put the caret at the end of the line without selecting all the text.
12. Changed: MC would automatically import and create a playlist when playing web media (and some other) files.
13. Fixed: After deleting files from a playlist, selection (of different tracks) would remain.
14. Changed: Export Playlist now uses the name of the exported item in the filename.
15. Changed: Export Playlist will now create directories when necessary.
16. Changed: In Export Playlist, changing output formats will not replace a user-typed filename anymore.
17. NEW: CD / DVD changes will be automatically detected by device views, regardless of auto-insert settings.
18. Changed: MPL 2.0 format has been changed to support XML specifications.
19. NEW: Added ExportToXML command line parameter to Media Jukebox.exe (will export DB to XML file)
20. Changed: Wording for ripping a CD made more consistent throughout MC.
21. Fixed: Tab order in burn dialogs.
22. Fixed: MC now uses system locale settings for text sorting and various other things.
23. NEW: Added "Email files..." to file menu. This feature allows to email media files and images.
24. Fixed: Several TV improvements and fixes.
25. Changed: Improved default JR Video Codec quality (will be configurable later).
26. Fixed: Possible crash in JR Video Codec when recording at high resolutions.

We're still getting more bugs reported than we can fix each build. Please keep a list of bugs you find, and re-report anything that doesn't get fixed each build.

Thanks for your help and support.

OMG!! A nice lot of fixes... I am gonna get down to testing this one straight away.

Hopefully with the fixes to jpeg rotation I will finally get this feature to work :)

Scroll Bars and Stats view much better...
Rotate Jpeg Finally Works!!!  This is the first time this has ever worked on my system...
I think you meant added [Duplicates] to search modifiers rather than Limit... Limit has been there for a while :)
Confirm that Email Files... does not do anything at the mo :)

If you rotate an image with the image tab showing in properties the thumbnail is not refreshed until you click on another file then click back.  In thumbnail mode in the main window the change is instant...

The differentiation between images and music works much better now with the show option for images not disrupting audio playback, however is there a chance of having an option to clear the current image playlist without having to send something else to it??

Sorry about this but the following are still not working.

1) jpeg rotation

2) Audio analyze

Even if I re analyze a file that had a lower peak % the analyzer is calculating it as 100%.

These were working until about 4 or 5 builds ago.

I've completely uninstalled, MC rebooted, run scandisk and reinstalled MC but to no avail.

Bugs:
1. Inserted a data CD (of MP3s) in to CD-RW drive and MC crashed (during the 'new' auto-detect logic I assume).  The new auto-detect logic seems much, much nicer...but it does seem to cause a crash at times too.

I guess it's my duty to keep mentioning this....

For some reason, whenever I try to import a skin it fails with a rather generic error.

I want my LowerRight skin!!

Kind of serious BUG:

I tried to use the "Visualization Studio" to modify "clean-n-tidy".
I started to change the type of analizer - to left side - and things started to look strange.
I am not really good with this part of MC but I was experimenting. Finally, the program crashed completly - no error message.
When I restarted and tried to play anything it would always crashed.
At this point I want to return to the "clean-n-tidy" original visualization but MC will only access this when playing something.
I think Vis. Studio should be available when nothing is playing OR when something is playing - just to be on the safe side.
Lastly, I re-installed MC and it fixed the problem, almost. I had to change to 'clean-n-tidy' because it looked like it was going to crash again.

Everything else looks great in this build. More stable and sounds wonderful. This is a really cool program.  8)

Just installed the latest build, CD Burner still not detected.
My Iomega drive model number is CDRW6402EXT-B (it's the external one) and I have the latest update from the Iomega web site (v 2.3.7 build 203)

No rush on this one, but the File| Email Files doesn't appear to work.

Hope you can help with the Burner issue,
Steve

MP3 VBR encoder does not seem to want to let me set a custome mode. When I press the advanced button I still get a drop down menu instead of a text widget.

Bug Report (I think)

If I run MC9.0.104 by right-clicking on the Start Menu and selecting Media Center > Play, then:

1. MC attempts to play all the .lnk and .ini files from my C:\Documents and Settings\username\Start Menu\ folder and its subfolders. [They are all added to Playing Now.]

2. I get the error message:
Quote
Media Jukebox (sic) encountered errors while trying to play the last several files.
Please make sure the path in the Media Jukebox (sic) library points to the right location.

3. My library is loaded quite normally.

Configuration:

Just burned a CD with various artists and writing text lists the artists as "Various." Printing a jewel case lists artists as "Various" as well.

File | Email does nothing.

But congratulations - coming along just great and I look forward with great anticipation to the release product somewhere along the line. This is an awsome product. I feel most fortunate to be able to have such an impressive piece of software on my computer.

Thanks Matt and all the rest of the staff - and especially The Godfather JimH

- Left tree collapses on startup

- Uploading more than 100 files to my Handheld device gives an error at the end "error opening file" and not all files are uploaded then

- When sending e.g. 5 mp3's to external tool MP3Gain, it opens 5 times MP3Gain i.s.o. Adding those 5 files to 1 MP3Gain and those 5 MP3Gain instances have all the same file in it.

- When deleting a file with shift from Playing now when another song is playing, the focus of the currently playing song is gone

I downloaded this newest beta today and shortly afterward my virus scanner (McAfee) told me it was infected and to delete it (MediaCenter9.exe). I did, but now I can't find any logged info about what kind of virus -- if any -- it contained.

Was this just my AV software freaking out?

Excellent latest build.

Email files works for me but only with Image files.

It would be great if the email option was in the Right CLik/Send to.. menu.

Keep up the good work.

Bugs:
1. With Playing Now selected and files in the playing now playlist, clicking the Play button while nothing is playing (stopped) results in "Please select files to play" message.  I retstarted MC and got the same error message.  I double-clicked a track to start playback and it started playing.  I stopped it and clicked the Play button and playback started...wierd.  Can't recreate, but there must be some condition that causes this "Please select files to play" error to come up incorrectly.

Repeating the same bugs reported in the last several builds.  I'd really liike to be able to backup my library and to play .mpc files!

Bugs still present:
  • Library backup still not working.  Receive message: "Failed to backup info."
  • Unable to import .mpc files - MC crashes when getting decoder.
  • CD Labeler is not recognizing internal artwork.

Continuing Request
  • Change closing of CD Labeler from automatic to manual.

*NEW
- Auto Smartlist "Top Hits -- haven't heard for over a year" doesn't order by numberplays, so it really doesn't show any "Top Hits"
*OLD
- Installer doesn't remove old install entries in add/remove programs. (Media jukebox entry)
- When importing mp3 files, the track# tag rewrites from 01 to 1...and no way to automatically add 0x (Not checked this version but not reported as fixed either)
- Media Center is named Media Jukebox in Task Manager - Processes
- Shift-Deleting a file in Playing Now reorders the list after the current sorting order

Before:
9 Delerium Enchanted
5 Delerium Silence
1 Depeche Mode Somebody

After:
1 Delerium Enchanted
2 Delerium Silence
3 Depeche Mode Somebody

- Shift-Deleting bugged. The player pane shows Media Center 9.0 and "buffering..." It seems that MC loses focus on which file is currently playing and especially which song comes next

- Wheel-scrolling in any list doesn't use system settings. Instead it always scroll 1 line at a time (my system setting is 3 lines to speed things up), causing scrolling through long lists a minor pain

*FIXED
- Shift-Deleting a file in Playing Now caused the sound to hang after the current playing song. The song now fades out (probably due to the crossfade setting of 2 sec)
- In Auto Smartlist (music), the dupfinder probably shouldn't show all media files, but Audio only.

- as of build 104, some mp3s still skip on playback, yet same mp3 files play fine in Winamp.  now, just some, not all.  and they skip at the same time in the track everytime.

- also, playlists are not persisting.  Meaning, after setting up a playlist, and closing the application cleanly, and then restarting, the contents of the playlist are gone - empty, kaput.

- I also get a message sometimes about my cdrom being used by another alias - at which point I must exit the program and restart to continue ripping.
