Author Topic: Best option to listen to music from media center server in the living room tv  (Read 273 times)

This is my setup: I have a server running mediacenter server in my basement. I use a desktop PC to listen to music in my office. I have a TV connected to a Yamaha amplifier. The TV has an Amazon Fire TV stick.

I used to run Gizmo on this Fire TV stick and could listen to my music from the server. After an update of Gizmo, I can enter the code to get connected, but nothing happens. It's not connected.

So this option does not work anymore. I could use the Panel option via Browser on Fire TV with the known issues of not being able to scroll using the fire tv remote.

So my question: What is the best option to comfortably listen to my music in the living room using fire tv or any other hardware - but not another PC - connected to the TV?

You can install BubbleUPnP onto the Firestick and have it on your network as a DLNA Renderer, then hit it from the MC Server or Client or Device.

Your Yamaha amp may even be capable of doing it natively, what model is it?

The Yamaha is RX-V-3900.
How can I select playing to DLNA Renderer?

That receiver is quote old but the specs do say that it supports DLNA, how extensive that support is is hard to say.

Have a look at the DLNA topic on the Wiki: https://wiki.jriver.com/index.php/DLNA
and the Media network topic: https://wiki.jriver.com/index.php/Media_Network

I found a solution that works for me.

Initially, I installed Mo4media on my Android Tablet, connected a little Bluetooth adapter (Philips AEA2000/12) to my Yamaha RX-V3900 and listened to the music. Same configuration worked with Gizmo. I decided to use Mo4media over Gizmo since it offers more comfort.

After reading the reply regarding DLNA connectivity, I found that my Digital Tuner from Hama (DIT2000) offers this feature. I had not used it in a while and switched it on. The device was visible as "Player" immediately and after selecting it and selecting the correct input on the Yamaha everything works fine. Even the cover and title played is visible on the little display of the Hama Tuner.

I checked again if the Yamaha RXV3900 would not work. According to the specs it should, but neither Gizmo nor Mo4media nor any MC client could find this device to play to. There may be a trick that I don't know yet.

So far, so good. If anybody knows how to play to Yamaha - any advice is appreciated.

Ok, good result.

You should be able to play to the Yamaha by installing BubbleUPnP onto the Firestick.

This will allow you to configure the Bubble/FS combination as a DLNA endpoint and it should also show up in MC.

I managed to download and Install bubbleupnp on the fire Stick but found it difficult to use with firetv remote control Options and also could Not find a way to make configure the App so that the fire Stick or the Yamaha was visible in MC. So I give Up and use what I have.

Fair enough, never actually used a FireStick so I don't have an impression of how easy/hard it would be to get working I just know they support what you're trying to do.

I use a ChromeCast which is pretty simple, Bubble can work with it to become a DLNA endpoint and it can be managed by a browser from any device on your network. If you have one of those handy give it a go.
