Files splat by cue file are sent over DNLA Network incorrectly
« on: January 26, 2025, 06:01:42 am »

Hello all,

I have huge music library with a lot of albums splat by cue.

It shows (tracks from albums) correctly on JRiver Media Center on Windows.

I would like to play these tracks over my audio receiver via DLNA Network.

I want to be able play it as separate tracks, not albums.

I installed an Android app named "Wi-Fi cast". It send data to receiver via network.

However, there is a big issue. When it sends let's say track number 3 from some album, receiver plays whole album. At this time, it displayed that it plays track number 3, but, in fact, it plays a full album from beginning.

How can I correct this? Is it a bug of JRiver Media Center? If yes, can you fix? If not, can you suggest me correct app to do so from mobile device?

Thank you

Background on what you are seeing:
DLNA is file based. A bin is a single file with a cue specifying playback ranges. Most DLNA controllers will see it as a single file.
MC as a controller will send a track playback range to the DLNA device as a file.
So if MC can see your amp directly you should use a remote like Gizmo or JRemote which will use MC as the controller.

It's strange that I've not receiving notifications automatically, so I missed your answer on time, have used notify capability.

Regarding JRemote. Is it possible to shuffle all the tracks with it from all my albums? I can't check because JRemote can't find DLNA Servers in my network, so I can't check. At the same time, "Wi-Fi Cast" have found, but it play full album, as I said before

Thank you

Have you tried using Panel to play the tracks?

I've just tried (thank you, anyway), but:
1) I don't understand, how to send music to my amplifier
2) I don't understand how to play all my track that I have in my library shuffled (I have hundreds of alums)
Could you suggest if you see it's poosbie?

Also, I've tried Gizmo, it successfully connected to my amplifier, but I still not understand, how to create playlist with all my tracks to play them randomly.

With JRiver, when I press "Cast" button, it can't found any device. Also, I'm not sure I'll have the capability to play all my tracks randomly through this app

To play to your amplifier click the cog, on the Main tab select your amplifier in the Play to option.
To play all your tracks,  shuffled you could create a Smart Playlist

Unfortunately, this doesn't work. I used Gizmo and Panel (web-app of JRiver), and press on different tracks in the album, but, as before, full album is playing starting from the first song, despite I'm pressing different tracks in the album.

At the same time, in JRiver Media Center for Windows, it's played correctly, as separate tracks, via my PC output (it's not an option to send to my amplifier via WiFi/Bluetooth due to loosing audio quality).

So, how can I play tracks splitted by cue with my amplifier via DLNA?

P.S.: thank you other members of this topic, I successfully sent music to my amplifier, and could play all my music randomly via smartlists (I like predefined "100 random songs", it works good for me), but have this issue that full album is played instead of specific track

Configure the DLNA server on the MC computer in the Audio section to "Specified format when necessary".
In the advanced under audio choose the format to convert (sacd)
For the output format choose one your amp can play.

By the way, is there any way to make flac decoding to dsf tracks only in case if flac files are albums that have correspondent cue files?
I'm afraid I can loose quality when decoding flac tracks that are stored as tracks (not albums), when it's decoding to specified output format.
So, I would like to have logic:
- if flac file is track - keep it as it is
- if flac file is an album - decode to specified output format (I've chosen dsf, looks like it's the best quality possible when encoding flac files)

Not currently. Probably would need to have cue as an option in the advanced format selection.
You don't really need to re-encode flac to DSF, just decode it to one of the wave formats.
Most devices won't handle HEADERLESS PCM 24 bit but most should handle the PCM 24 bit setting.
In fact if your device can handle PCM 24 bit that might be the best option for all of your material. That way volume leveling can be applied if you want. Your DLNA device may or may not support that when you send original format.
