Hi JRiver,

burned a CD with MC9. Worked OK with the exception that it turned Autoplay permanently off and had to reset and reboot the system manually.

Also I installed a number of applications such as WinDVD that make smart entries in the Autoplay Menu. If you insert a DVD, it automatically ask whether you want to play it with Windows Media Player or WinDVD 4 and you select the tool to play with. MC 9 is missing there! You can also set your selection permanently, so that every time you insert a DVD the same application pops up.

I fiddled around the system a bit to see if you can change the behaviour of those Autoplay menus to replace WMP with MC9.
You can: with Powertoy tool for XP TweakUI you can add any application you want to autorun on certain cd/dvd types. Here how to do it:

Download and install the Powertoy tool for XP TweakUI. Go to MyComputer>Autoplay>Handlers.
Have a look at Windows Media Player. You cannot edit or remove that entry, but you can create a new one for MC9. Select the Program "C:\Windows\System32\MJextman.exe". In the Args field enter: DEVICE=AudioCD "%L" and click apply. Insert an Audio CD and after a few seconds the Autoplay Menu pops up asking you what you want to do with the Audio CD. Select Playing with MC9. You can also make this selection permanent by clicking a field at the bottom of the menu.

You can make entries for various media types such as BlankCDR, Mixed Content, CD Audio, DVD, Music files, Video files and Digital images. You can set it up that inserting an image cd would start MC9 in slide show mode. Of course mjextman needs some new options for that. Also options for simply accessing YADB or just ripping the CD's to disk would be needed.

Of course this is a workaround. It would be much nicer that MC9 would insert those menu selections at installation time itself like WinDVD and other apps.  There is a webpage at MSDN on how to insert program code for those new Autoplay features.

And please don't turn off Autoplay after ripping. The new Autoplay feature of Windows XP has been greatly improved and has become a very nice feature. Apps should take advantage of it.
