Promoting Subgenres to Root Genres
« on: March 04, 2025, 08:17:59 am »

Long time follower, first time poster  :) I am wanting to know if anyone knows how to promote a subgenre to a root genre? My dilemma started when I decided to make "synth" a subgenre of Pop and Rock (Rock\Synth and Pop\Synth). I have since decided that I will have other "synth" entries and prefer to have this as a top level (root) genre.

I have tried moving the subgenre by dragging it to the "Genres" folder under audio, which does not work. I tried renaming to "\Synth\Rock" but that just creates Rock\\Synth\Rock. I manually changed one tag to "Synth\Rock" to establish the genre and then move the files from the "Rock\Synth" genre by dragging them to the newly created genre, but that wipes out all other genres in the file tags besides "Synth\Rock". I really don't want to have to redo the tags on hundreds of files manually if I can avoid it.

Does anyone have a solution? Thanks in advance.
