34.0.24 (5/6/2025)

1. Fixed: The option to render Theater View as BT.2020 would tint the image due to some transposed numbers.
2. Fixed: Lyrics lookup tries to trim band biographies from the beginning that started showing up recently.
3. Fixed: Not all VST channel arrangements saved properly (will need to resave because of this change).
4. Fixed: Figured out the necessary channel arrangement for VST3 7.1.4 (it's different than the MC arrangement) (thanks Chris Connaker!).
5. Changed: Removed the VST channel selection node for 7.1.4 because it is no longer needed.
6. Changed: Rich Data is now viewable on library clients.
7. Changed: Added a new node to the VST channel selection for "Dolby 7.1.4" (it needs a different VST define than Steinberg::Vst::SpeakerArr::k71_4).
8. Changed: Updated the Catalan language (thanks Josep).
9. Fixed: ID3v2 WXXX tags were not being read properly.
10. Changed: Slovak translation updated (thanks Peter Lukáč).
11. Fixed: When there was a missing folder it was no longer being cleaned up by auto-import since the detection of mounts.
12. Changed: Updated all the skins with various fixes for problems from the last changes (thanks EnglishTiger).
13. Fixed: Building thumbnails could result in an excessive amount of diskspace to be reserved (but not used).
14. Fixed: Building thumbnails would leave temporary image files in the Temp folder.
15. Changed: Relaxed glibc version requirement to 2.34.

34.0.20 (04/28/2025)

1. Fixed: Modern Cards: Grey Edition was showing a strong divider in lists the last few builds (reverted to be like previously).
2. Fixed: APO import was not reading frequencies from some files.
3. Fixed: Skins with round corners could show a minor artifact when in fullscreen Display View or Theater View.
4. NEW: JRVR support for r210 10-bit packed RGB input (for some capture cards).
5. Fixed: Added some missing skin items back to ModernCards Dark.
6. NEW: Support for rendering Theater View in BT.2020 color primaries (Settings -> Theater View -> Advanced).
7. Changed: Upgrading Media Center through the Installer will copy the cached Spotlight data.
8. NEW: Rich Data can be added to files through the file context menu. These are ZIP files that can contain multiple images, PDFs, text files, etc. A new toolbar button (next to Spotlight) is displayed to View Rich Data when it exists for the selection.
9. Changed: Media Center will cache a higher resolution thumbnail for cover art, reducing access to the full resolution image. This will cause the thumbnail cache to be rebuild. Updating both server and client is recommended.
10. Changed: Media Center will force VSYNC to be enabled in the NVIDIA profile to avoid video playback glitches.
11. NEW: VST3 can have the channel selection fully manual to fine tune your speaker profile (Options > Audio > Advanced > VST Channel Selection).
12. NEW: PDF and TXT files are now "played" inside MC in a new browser window.
13. Fixed: The sample count reported in DSF conversion from SACD in the header was not correct.

2. NEW: Added support for the additional 7.1.4 channels to Room Correction (from the 7.1 it supported currently).
3. Changed: PlatformVersion in Skins can be specified up to the third component (eg. 10.0.22000 for Windows 11).
4. Fixed: The Hilight3DColor from the skin could be incorrect since the supported name change.
5. NEW: Added support for "Preamp" to APO import.
6. Changed: Updated the new / improved this version link for v34.
7. Changed: Added support for a different naming of low shelf and high shelf filters to APO import.
8. NEW: Toolbar button is now shown next to the Spotlight button to indicate the current selection has "Extras" (additional cover art, album booklet, etc.).  Pressing the button shows a temporary playlist with all the Extras files.  "All .." was also added to the View Extras right-click menu to do the same.

1. Changed: When playing decoded files from memory, the memory needed will be allocated in one chunk instead of growing as it reads the file.
2. Fixed: Lyrics lookup could put information about the contributors at the start of the lyrics.
3. NEW: Added a "Dirty" flag to MCWS SetInfo so a file can be changed without flagging as dirty (which moves and tags the file).
4. NEW: Added 5.1.2 configuration as a possible output (JRSS will not fill the height channels today).

34.0.14 (4/1/2025)

1. NEW: Upgraded to Monkey's Audio 11 featuring multi-threaded encoding and decoding.

I am on Oracular awaiting k/Ubuntu finally fixing their 25.04 upgrade, a timeline for which they have still not provided unless I missed it somewhere.

Going back, I have more luck with the repo than InstallJRMC which is the reason I am even using Ubuntu (was running Fedora, overall a better fit for this device). Regarding the notice above, "Available in the latest repo." since there is no "Adding the MediaCenter repo manually. Only for Debian and Ubuntu." thread here for 34, would command just be, after adding repo list file—
For Noble*:
echo "deb [signed-by=/usr/share/keyrings/jriver-com-archive-keyring.gpg arch=amd64,i386,armhf,arm64] http://dist.jriver.com/latest/mediacenter/ noble main" | sudo tee /etc/apt/sources.list.d/jriver.list

*my comment in other thread [ https://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php/topic,139624.msg979348.html#msg979348 ] explains the Oracular-specific command does not work

then be...
sudo apt update
sudo apt install mediacenter34

or should it be something else?

Since my query above received no response, I installed via installJRMC - MC installer for Linux.

34.0.24 on Plucky 25.0.4 Kubuntu

Keeps stopping between tracks with variety of files that
- play fine on other applications
- exhibited no trouble in Media Center 32 or 33

Assorted formats: aac, mp3, ogg, flac

Doesn’t matter if it's a mixed playlist or consecutive songs on a single album.

It's like it gets stuck at end of previous track, then finally the display shows the next track but, for instance, if next song is 3:35 long, display shows ... / 3:35 / then somehow a remaining time longer than actual track** [like -3:54 as example], and doesn't ever start that next track.

MediaCenter then won't play any track until I quit and restart the program; after I do that, usually the same song it got stuck on (or, got stuck before) will play just fine.

another song or few, or sometimes several, later, same thing happens.

I have found no pattern to this.

** Because of what I have noted above, I am going to disable the crossfade setting and set it to gapless for all, not just sequential album tracks, but just a hunch and no idea if that will help.

Is this a known issue? If so, is an update pending? It’s a major flaw; I would have to say JRiver is unusable in this state.

Thanks

edit: disabling the crossfade did not help or change this at all. Just got through six songs before this happened, which is maybe average or better. Disabling memory playback next. And.. that did not help, and actually sound cuts off at end of previous song, then playback freezes. Can't get thru a couple songs even.

It's not a known issue.  Try a different desktop.

To be clear, you are suggesting I install a different desktop environment or OS to run this program which previously ran successfully on this OS?

  • The color of Spring!

He means to try it on another OS as it's not a known issue as a way to see if it can be reproduced elsewhere. I suppose a process of elimination. Also remember that JRiver only officially supports Debian (Debian Bookworm with MC34) so it's technically unsupported on Kubuntu. KDE Plasma has been known to cause issues in the past with MC too so that could be why he said to try a different desktop.

Personally not seeing any issue like that on multiple machines and OSes (Windows 11, macOS Sequoia, Ubuntu 25.04, Arch Linux, Fedora 42, Debian 12, OpenSUSE Tumbleweed and Linux Mint 22.1).

Okay yeah fresh install of different OS would make more sense as potential solution, though my limited understanding is base stuff like sound playback on Kubuntu is built off Ubuntu, not its own thing? I don't want to install another desktop environment on this system; long ago it seemed fine or as I recall even encouraged during certain installs to have multiple desktops but going back a long ways now, I find that just mucks up any system I have to where neither desktop is a satisfactory experience. And installing a different OS would be big undertaking I want to avoid- it's not like I only use this device for JRiver, and everything else is set up just right which was no small accomplishment; also it's a dual boot with commercial OS I never use that came with this device, because I may as well keep that if ever needed, as I paid for it, and don't wanna have to mess with existing partitions; and KDE works far better with this hardware than other desktops I first tried (all the major ones, plus), which is why I am even on KDE. I already switched this once from Fedora KDE which works best overall with the computer only because I couldn't get the JRiver install to work (I think I thought at time, mistakenly, that Ubuntu was just about de facto officially supported, along with Debian).

For now I will probably deal with inconvenience of running this library remotely from another system while I try to see if this sorts itself out or I come across some solution.

Thanks for the more detailed reply.
