How? Album Artist (Auto) in filename.
« on: January 19, 2003, 01:51:18 am »

What do I type in the Rename From Properties dialog to get the auto album artist (ie the artist or "(multiple artists)") included in the filename? I want my 'standard' rename scheme for all my media files to be:

Directory: D:\Media\[MEDIA TYPE]\[ALBUM ARTIST]\[ALBUM]

Filename: [ARTIST] - [TRACK #] - [NAME]

However the keyword [ALBUM ARTIST] does not work. What do I need to type? And if you know the answer, please tell me how you worked it out.

Thanks.

And how is suppose to work now?

I see this is a frequently asked question. Many people asks about the "Album Artist" and "Album Type" automatic fields. It seems that actually they only work in the sheme view. Right?

Is it possible to organize the media in a folder structure like...

[Album Type (auto)]/[Album Artist (auto)]- [Album]([#Track] - [Title].mp3?

Is it possible to export "Album Type" and "Album Artist" into a spreadsheet?

Is it possible to display "Album Type" and "Album Artist" in the right panel?

I think the answer for every question is "No, not is possible."

I would like to know what can users expect in this area for future releases. Do JRiver plan to include this features in final release? Will they include it a little later? Do they plan to include it at all?

In my opinion, these auto fieds are a great feature. However, you have to work hard to integrate them with all other features your soft has.

Correct - but, Album Artist is in MC9 in a different way.

Request to J River - support the use of auto fields the same as normal properties, for Rename and any other cases where it might be appropriate. For Rename, where "[AUTO ALBUM ARTIST]" is specified in a filename scheme, substitute the Artist name, or "(multiple artists)" - in fact, I guess the actual string to use should be configurable, for example someone may prefer to see "[Various]". Basically I want my directory structure to look like:

D:
..+Media
....+Audio
......+Avril Lavigne
........+Let Go
..........Avril Lavigne - 01 - Losing Grip.mp3
..........other album tracks
........Avril Lavigne - 00 - Why.mp3 (no album specified)
......+(multiple artists)
........+Smash Hits 2002 (compilation)
..........tracks by different artists from one album

Cheers.
