MC9 install problem
« on: January 07, 2003, 03:37:38 am »

I have been able to install MC9 (latest build) on my work PC which runs XP Professional with no problem.

When I try to install it on my home PC (which has XP Home edition) it gives me a "buffer overrun" error message and when I click on the error message it shuts down.

I love this program and I want to use it to sync my beloved iPod and be my home "jukebox" application.

what are you doing when you get this error?

go to Help, And System Info And Then paste that info into a message.

Also 9.0.90 has some major problems.

It could be a CD writer detection problem.  Just a guess.

Maybe we could send you a special debug version once we get a stable Unicode build out. (will be a few days)

Bump this is there still isn't any joy in a few days.

Thanks MrVegas.

And What Were You Doing When You Got The Error?

Did You Read The Burning FAQ's?

Did You Install The External ASPI Found In The Burning FAQ?

Did You Read The Directions For The Adaptec ASPI on how to install ASPI located In C:\Adaptec

Did You Run The ASPI Checker Located In The C:\Adaptec Dir After Installing The ASPI?

>> wnaspi32.dll: Internal ASPI Layer
Did You Turn Off Internal ASPI?

King Sparta:

The error occurs immediately after installing the program.  It launches and then the error pops up in a separate window.  If I click on the error message window it closes MC9.  If I click somewhere else on the screen MC9 stays up and the error message just lurks in the background.

I don't plan on using MC9 for burning CD's.  I use EAC/Lame for that.

I have not read any of the things you suggested, but I will do that.  Maybe there are some settings there that I can fiddle with (even if I have not told MC9 that I want to burn/rip etc).

Thanks for your input!

this is the first time i have heard about this but it seems alot of users have been having problems with the internal ASPI (Normaly when burning). not sure ASPI would efect your problem (Maybe).

I would not install 9.0.90, as matt said give them sometime.

King Sparta:

I have checked the burning FAQ's and they make me feel like an idiot.

I can't figure out how to "install the external ASPI" or where to find it.  Could you please provide more precise instructions on what you mean?

External ASPI Link

http://www.musicex.com/mediajukebox/aspi.html

Download It And Open It, It Will Create A Folder Called

C:\adaptec

In this Folder Is The Install Program It Is Called

Aspinit.exe

Run It

It should then Be installed.

If you want to check run "aspichk.exe" in the same folder. this will check and make sure everything went ok.

Next

You will need to turn Off The Internal ASPI In MC In the burner settings.

Oh great King ...

you're a genius, we're getting very CLOSE

I did what you said.

But I still have a problem.  When I click on Tools / Options / CD Writer Settings, the "buffer overrun" message jumps up and won't let me uncheck the "use internal aspi layer" box.  I have the feeling that if I can uncheck the box, the error message will go away, but I can't get at it.

well the new 9.0.95 build seems stable.

I am not sure if JohnT addressed anything in there that may have helped.

Maybe worth a shot.

You may need to provide JohnT And JimH some info On The Make And Model Of The Burner.

It does not look like it is going to look at your drive.

The big change in the latest build was a fix for a problem jgourd had with firewire drives.

Here's an idea ....

would it be possible to provide me a link to the latest build version that has the "use internal aspi layer" box already unchecked?

that might do it

I think the program is looking at your system and forcing the check to be on.

There maybe a registry that can be changed or deleted.

but thats not my area

remember what matt said

Have you tried 9.0.95, just out yesterday?  It's in the first thread here.

Yes, I tried 9.095 last night.  Same result.

KingSparta:  it's probably either going to take (a) a registry hack (which I, like you, am not knowledgeable about) that somebody would walk me through; or (b) waiting for a de-bug version.

Thanks for all your attention, I really appreciate it.

If you email me, I can send you a "debug" version of one of the MJ files which may help pinpoint the problem.

Thanks!
