"Standard/advanced case" renaming?
« on: October 17, 2003, 08:11:13 pm »

I like all my files renamed in what's called standard or advanced case in many tag programs (first letter capital except for words like the, with, a & so on). Is this possible to do with MC9.1 now? I haven't found a way to do it.

Did you try using 'clean file properties'?

Select the files you want, goto Tool / Library Tools / Clean File Properties...

It should do what you want.

Thanks, Dragyn! It looks like it might. Is there a place to configure what words are left, I prefer stuff like DJ in caps, R.E.M. in caps and so on.

I don't think this is possible... I have a whole bunch of tracks that end in ", the" which just looks silly... Sigh...

Phydeaux / Mastiff,

You could also use the find and replace function in Library Tools.

Remove the tick from all areas apart from the ones you want to change.

Then find ", the" and change to ", The" or just "" if you want to remove it totally.

It does work , but be careful, just highlight a few tracks to start with.

I think his problem is that tracks that should start with The ends with , the instead. That is a bit more difficult to change. You can do it with MP3 Tag Studio with rename but I'm not sure if it's possible to do it with tags.

Seems to me like that plugin only works on artist names. But I may be wrong. And if you had read better, you'd see that the problem is trachs like "The Red Car" is now named "Red Car, The", and I can't see how this plugin should be able to change it o "The Red Car" again.

Yes, I know. But you can't move the "The" back to the front, where it should be. "Red Car" is not "The Red Car".

I think we're talking past each other, besides each other or whatever it's called in english). I think he has tracks that should be named "The Red Car" that because of a glitch with renaming now is named "Red Car, the". Renaming it to "Red Car" still won't give you the correct title, and "Red Car, The" doesn't really help much either.

And anyway there has to be a naming convention used with the function, wouldn't it be easy to let it be configurable?

This problem arose when MC added functionality within clean file properties to correct fields containing 'the'.  I never used this new feature because I only wanted artist names correcting.  That would mean you have to use the function twice, once to correct artist names only and then again to correct capitalization etc within other library fields.  I couldn't be bothered with having to use Clean File Properties twice and change the tick boxes against the library fields each time so I just correct artist names manually.

I think it would be good if MC could be changed so that 'the' correction only ever applies to artist names regardless of what fields are ticked within Clean File Properties.  This may seem a bit illogical within the function but in reality it's what everyone would want.  I don't think anyone wants to remove 'the' or put it to the end on anything other than artist names.
