DSP for Video?

Greetings and Felicitations,
Does anyone know of a plug-in that can enhance  the sound quality or enable DSP when playing video files.
My DFX used to work on videos when they were routed through Windows media, Now it's played through DirectX. Is it possible to control the  player output?
