Media Center 9.1.291
« on: October 28, 2003, 04:58:56 pm »

This is the latest build.  There may be some known (and unknown) bugs.

The latest known stable version of 9.1 is here:
http://www.musicex.com/mediacenter/download.html

The latest build of 9.1 is here:
ftp://ftp.jriver.com/pub/downloads/music/MediaCenter91291.exe

History
1. Fixed: PackageInstaller was not executing RUN commands correctly.
2. Fixed: MC sometimes crashed on completion of burning a CD when "auto-play" option was enabled.
3. Fixed: With some CD burner models, MC would freeze during the burning process.
4. Fixed: Media Center was incorrectly parsing ASX files version 1.0
5. Fixed: Adding files to the burn queue could be very slow on some systems.
6. Fixed: If web server returned success code, but no success message, MC would report an error.
7. Changed: Mouse wheel over player area changes volume even if the cursor isn't right over the volume slider. (only changes position if right over position)
8. NEW: Added DisplayFont item to PlayerBar::Display area of Megamorphis skins. (see PixOS for example)

I'm seeing a problem with this build where I try to burn an 80 min cd. MC complains that the data is too long (it's just short of 80 min), but I click Yes (continue). Then it pops up a dialog that says "Can't start the write". When I click Ok, it crashes.

Update: I discovered that my data was slightly over 80 minutes. Shortening it allowed it to be burnt without crashing. Still shouldn't crash though.

hey I just updated to this new build and I noticed that the artist/album view scheme has been changed.  I would like soundtracks with multiple artists to be listed like the old way of multiple artists.  How would I go about doing so?

Just a general note.  I really like how in some builds, you listed the changes made in the previous 1-2 builds.  This is very helpful for those of us who have slow connections and/or bandwidth limitations to know when it's worth downloading a build.

A couple of usability problems when burning audio CDs:

1) It's easy to accidentally add files twice to the CD.  Select the files in a playlist, right-click and choose "send to / CD, DVD, & Handhelds / D:, and they are added once to the CD.  Then click the "burn CD" button in the lower left corner, without unselecting the files, and the same files are added again.  I suppose this isn't how you're supposed to do it but it seemed like the intuitive thing to do, especially when you're adding files a few at a time from different locations and then you decide you're done and you want to actually burn them.

2) The duplicates wouldn't be such a problem if I could easily remove them from the CD.  But when I list the files that will be burnt on the CD and I select the duplicates and press "delete", both copies of the files are removed from the list, leaving me with an empty list.

Kiwi,  I believe that is the practice when none of the builds mentioned were ever released.

I am still having a problem with the import of m4a files. Now about 25% of the time I still am getting files that have a bitrate and duration of 0 after importing them. These files were created with QTpro 6.4 and correctly show up and play as aac files in itunes. On files where I get a bitrate I am getting 125 when itunes reports 128. Not sure this is related or not. Let me know if you want me to email you one of the files.

I just did a sync with the "delete files" option checked and it did not delete 3 Audible files that were not on the playlist -- i.e. 3 files remained on the ipod that were no longer assigned to ANY playlist according to MC.  When I viewed the contents of the iPod via MC, these 3 files had no playlist associated with them.

I "believe" that these 3 Audible files had their tags edited recently.  I seemed to end up with the newly tagged files on the iPod, PLUS the same files with the previous tag info -- i.e. I had the "correct" version of these files, plus the "old" version.  I had to delete them from the iPod manually.

When using "Remove Cover Art" in the Image window's context-sensitive menu the word "permanently" is spelled "permantently". :)

If there is just one! picture in a album folder, media center displays this as cover art after you import this folder. If you want to have more pictures in a album folder, you can put the remaining pictures in a subfolder. This functionality is great! ;D
I don't know if this behaviour is a coincidence, because i haven't found a description of that anywhere. Please keep this!!!

Thx

"Columns to show " and "Sorting":
I disabled "Automatically Save Sorting Changes" and saved a View by "Save This View For All Locations. Sometimes the view is reset to default and the default columns are displayed, but i don't know why and when. I have to reconfigure this each time.

Bug:
1. After burning a CD (in test mode), not getting the dialog to save, clear or burn another CD.  Only get the dialog that the burn finished and a Close button.  So, I have to manually remember to return the the CD-RW drive node and press the Cancel button (in the burn list screen).  I'm using Test Mode only for the time being...can't tell you what happens if you really burn a CD-R(W).

When streaming OGG fles with the media server all the tracks play as "live". This means that the position display and slider do not work.

Any chance there could be a release notes page/thread that has all of the notes in reverse cron order?  This would make it much easier for those of us who may not hit every version to see what has changed..

e.g, my last move was from 282 to 291..  it took a few minutes to find/read the changes between the two.

Thanks,
Peter

BUG:  Converting a batch of external wave files to mp3 (VBR) creates two .mp3 files for every wave file, one of which is an empty file.

Wave File:  whatever.wav
MP3 #1:     whatever.mp3  (0 bytes!!!)
MP3 #2:     whatever (1).mp3 (valid mp3 file)

I also have the original originals in the same directory; I don't know if this is what confused MC.  I had 10 .XA files (from my SimCity 3K CD).  I converted them to .wav files (using another program).  I then used MC to convert the wave files to mp3's.

This has been asked before... and after Nila did some begging.... JimH told him to go ahead and make one...and keep it updated. The list lasted a couple of weeks... and then interest waned. I suspect no one would get angry if you wanted to start one up again... but I doubt you'll see a JRiver maintained list.

Someone can correct me if I'm wrong.

I'm having the following problem:

I download a song into a temp folder.  I double-click the song in Windows Explorer to start playing the song in MC.  I stop playback, then right-click the song and choose "Library Tools" to rename (and relocate) the song.  The file does not get moved to the new location based on the "Artist/Album" file name and location settings I have established. The song remains in the temporary folder into which I downloaded the song in the first place.

Bugs:
1. The CD Rip dialog does not 'act' right.  When you minimize it, it minimizes to the desktop (not the taskbar)...like Win 3.1 days.  When you click on the Restore button (of the desktop minimized icon), it doesn't restore the CD Rip window...pops up the System menu and you have to click Restore. (using Win2000 Pro w/SP4).

2. The 'p' in "Enable on-line CD lookup" (Options > Device) is truncated partially...checkbox's dimensions are too small.

BUG: been here for a while, but it's finally annoying me enough to post.

100% reproducible on XP with fast user switching enabled.

To reproduce:
1) Set your system taskbar to two 'rows' high -- i.e. twice as high as the 'start' button
2) Start MC, and maximise window
3) Lock your machine (same thing as a 'fast user switch' in XP; Windows Key-L)
4) Log back in
5) MC window is now too big. It resizes itself as if the taskbar was only one unit high, so the bottom of the window gets cut off. If you restore and then re-maximise, it will be fine (until next time you 'fast user switch')

This does not happen if taskbar is one unit high. Kind of irritating.

Thanks!

crashing when converting a group of ten .shn files to variable .mp3 (high). it reproducibly crashes after converting the first file...

okay, MC is also crashing when trying to play .shn files. it will show buffering for a few seconds in the play bar, then crash.

MC won't allow me to add a field with the name of "Type".

If I have album thumbnails showing, and I do a select all in the Album pane list, then hold control to deselect one album from the list, the content view pane still shows the album thumbnail of the album I deselected.

2 Bugs 100% reproduceable in build 290:

1.  Click Play, then Stop (set in options to fade out) then close MC instantly and you get a Media Core error.

2.  In hairstyle using the Start Selection funciton to select a group of files (say an album) to play doesn't work in Thumbnail View.  MC plays all the tracks instead of the selection.

That means the latest build is considered to be the last stable copy! :)
