Handheld Drive Plugin (Archos Jukebox Multimedia)
« on: November 03, 2003, 10:18:52 pm »

I doubt there's much useful I could do in terms of begging, so I guess this is just a simple feature request.
  • When I use the "Synchronize files" option, it places the playlists in a folder "Playlists" below the root folder I specified. For example, if I specify that the root folder should be "G:\", it places the indivisual playlist folders below "G:\Playlists\". It doesn't seem like there's anywhere to change this, and I personally don't want it at all (I would prefer to place playlist folders directly in the root folder). Can this be made configurable?
  • Even further, can the playlists (optionally, of course) all be synched into one big folder, without seperation? In my case, I want to have one big playlist on my computer named "AJM" that contains all the files I want to have on my Archos. I would then synch this playlist with the Archos using a Genre\Artist\Name.mp3 scheme (which doesn't exist yet, see the next request) so I would see the genres directly under the root of the drive. This is currently impossible, even disregarding the strange "Playlists" folder, as there would be a folder name "AJM" containing all the files. It's quite time-consuming and inelegant to be constantly putting files into and out of some folder just so that I can synch and listain in peace.
  • Third, and perhaps most importantly, I would like it if a complete "Rename files from properties"-style dialog could be made for the handheld plugin. I could conceivably just ask every time I wanted a new scheme (such as "Genre\Artist", up above, or "Track# - Name.mp3") but it seems to make more sense to let me and other users do that kind of work.
  • If the above dialog was created, I would be quite contented, but what would be even better would be if it could be combined with the second request to allow me to have several naming systems for several different playlists all incorporated into the same folder structure.
But basically all I want is the following:
  • Playlists files synched into the root directory.
  • Flexible naming schemas.
Thanks!

Joshua,

I will add these suggestions in a little while.

Thanks!

Also, when trying to copy some files recently, I got a dialog showing "a list of files that failed to transfer with an error code". All the files have forward slashes ('/') or question marks in them, and there seem to be a lot of 3s in there (the error code?). I remember Media Center previously converting these to underscores to avoid problems with file naming. Is this possible to configure?

Joshua,

The '3' means the system cannot find the file specified. This probably is related to the renaming of files based on certain characters in the filepath. Improving this is possible. Email me one of the failing files and I will fix this.

Joshua,

Tonight's build of MC (9.1.299) has the removal of the default 'Playlists' folder. If you are synching, then the playlist will appear because synching is designed primarily for playlists.   To do what you want, select the AJM playlist in MC and then drag and drop the files onto the root of your Archos with 'Rearrange Upload Folders' set to 'Genre Artist Album'. This will transfer your files to the root level and create folders based on Genre Artist and Album.

I know you want that to be fully customizable, and it can be in time.
