Desired Find and Replace Enhancements
« on: January 05, 2004, 06:34:11 pm »

1. A GREP interface of some sort. This would more or less solve my issues with not being able to sort anything by artist last name without considerable effort. With GREP, I could make a statement like cut any and all alphanumeric characters up to the first encountered space, place this into a variable, replace with remaining text, a comma, and the contents of the variable.

Sounds a bit convoluted, but I've seen some programs that provide acceptable interfaces for this type of process (certainly nothing more complicated than the existing search interface). The ability to save custom find and replaces would add to the value.

2. Currently, I'm using The Godfather to get info about a particular "album" from AMG, applying the info to the files and then updating the library from tags. This works great except that I need to manually cut and paste the style and tones information into two custom fields. Of course these two fields are inconsistent. One field's values are separated by a comma then a space, the other with just a comma.

To make this long story longer...

It would be great if instead of immediately closing the F&R window after a completed function, it could remain open until manually closed. This way I could select field A, run an F&R and then select field B and run a different F&R. It would also be great if we could either save the searches as custom searches or at least open the window with the last search.

I could see how having the window close automatically would be useful for one off searches, maybe another button or a modifier key would be in order.

Make sense?
