Does MC tune the filesystem ?
« on: January 27, 2004, 06:42:14 pm »

I was wondering of MC10 will implement optimization of the filesystem.

Microsoft enables to configure what type of files will be stored in directories. For example for music of foto's. I guess this is an optimization.
I also think that advice on the cluster size would be appropriate. Of course depending on the type of encoding used.

Maybe these suggestions are something for MC10. And while I'm at it. I would suggest to store the CD cover in the directory listing/map. This makes it easier to go through them (when needed).

Just making use of several special icons would make things nicer to look at.  ;D

As far as I know, Windows doesn't optimize anything per se.  By setting the directory "type," you are just telling Windows Explorer how to display the directory's files.  Images will show thumbnails; music will show cover art; etc.

As for cluster size, generally speaking, these days that's really not something one needs to worry too much about anymore.

You're probably right on the 'optimization' part.

But what about storing covers in the directories.  Or is this already possible in MC, I always store them in the files!

And what about using more icon types?  One for the MC directory, another one for the covers, etc, etc ...

Differentiated icons would be nice. MC shows the same icon for all associated files, it would be good to distinguish playlists, audio, video, etc.

Simple - turn on "Always show extensions" in your folder properties.

Scott.

Come on Scott, that's not the same.

Using different icons to distinguish things is a way to make things more clear and nicer to look at. Look at a MAC for instance. They use better icons then Windows does. Unbeatable for their graphics.
