The Big Red X
« on: February 22, 2004, 01:02:07 pm »

Hi, Just getting started but love the program so far.  Did something, not sure what. Now when viewing image thumbnails (JPG's) there is a Big Red X in the corner of some of the thumbs.  Image still exists on drive.
Have re-searched the drive in an attempt to "refresh" the library.  Cant find reference to this X in the help or in these forums and am afraid that I have somehow qued the files for some action.

Probably is some basic concept of which I am ignorant. ?

Little Help?
TIA

I don't use MC for images so probably can't help you much but those that can will probably ask whether your files are located on a network or removable drive.

Does MC go to the correct location if you right click>locate>On disk (external)?

You could try deleting the affected files from the MC library (taking care not to delete from your hard disk) and reimporting them.

Not sure what you mean here.  Have you added the files to 'Playing Now'?  Is that what you mean?  What happens when you double click them in 'Playing Now'?

I would look in the status bar at the bottom and see if it says 'file not found' when selecting one of them.

Sometimes the X image doesn't refresh and the file is actually there. I've ran into this a few times.

I knew there was a bug I'd forgotten about!!!

I don't know for sure if this is related or not, but I recently re-jigged a couple of drives and drive letters. All of my library was fine, except for my videos. The dir structure was the same, but the drive letter was new.

Quite rightly, MC displayed all my videos with red "unavailable" crosses. Now, (here's the bug bit) with MC in either "all media"  or "video only" mode, doing a library update with "remove missing files" ticked did not remove the broken files from the database. In the end I just did a search and replace to fix the database, but still, they should have been cleaned from the database, shouldn't they?

The only thing I can see that might affect this is that they were originally on drive J:\ and that drive letter no longer existed. Did MC just assume that J:\ must be a removable drive?
