Changing drives
« on: March 26, 2004, 08:30:29 am »

Hi,
I am planning to purchase MC. (I have to say this here, it is much much better than musicmatch. it was so was easy to learn just after installing).

Say I have several big folders with all my mp3s. I create several playlists and listen to them.

What will happen if I change my computer or reformat the drive? Say in my new computer if I put all those mp3s in a different drive or rename the folder? will the playlist be still able to recall those mp3s and play?

please do let me know.

thanks.

you will need to install MC again

if you format drive c:

you will need to install MC again

if i am not mistaken mc saves the path to the play list if the drive changes or folder name then it will not work.

on the other hand if you use MC to move the files to a new drive or folder name then it will since mc will change the locations within the play lists.

Hi thanks for the reply.
I am bit confused.

So, MC's playlist will associate path of mp3's. Right?

Then if I install MC in a new computer with playlist, but the songs in a different folder? how will the playlist call those songs (as now the path to those mp3s are changed. Right?)?

How can i work around it so that I can use the same playlist in a different computer?

Thanks.

Hi KingSparta,

Sorry to be so naive. I still don't get it. The m3u list points to a particular folder where the mp3 is located. If I change the location of that folder (instead of E drive say put it in D), m3u won't be able to play/find the mp3 song right?

Can I 'globally' change the path in playlist to look in a particular drive/folder?

thanks.

if you change the drive or path of the file you will need to change it in the play list.

then it will work
