Help needed with downloading plug-ins

Hi, can someone please help. I have purchased mj8 today and i am trying to download an encoder plug in and the pda plug in. Everytime i have tried i get a "mj reader error- failed to connect to server". I have tried maybe 100 times. Is it me, am i doing something wrong? I tried before and got this, but i thought it was maybe because i hadn't purchased the plus version, but i've bought it today and i'm still getting the same problem. I bought this because i want to rip and encode cd's at the same time. I used mj7 in the past and never had any problems. Thanks skicowboys

Use IE to connect.

If you are using IE, then the problem is probably an over agressive firewall.

Jim, my browser of preference is Netscape 7.x.  I like  the tabbed browser and I guess I like the idea of a competitor to Microsoft.

What can I do to it to make it work?

Jim, how do i get round this? I am running windows xp, which i understand has it's own built in firewall and running norton anti virus. Are there any ways of turning these things off to get the plugins? Or can someone zip them and e-mail them to me. I need to get the plug ins downloaded or i can't use mj to encode any of the cd's to mp3's. Thanks again skicowboys

Tim,
I'm afraid we can't support multiple browsers.  It's a hot topic I know, and I sympathize, but life is short, IE is the standard, and we're dependent on it.

It's up to Netscape and Opera to conform to the IE standard.

XP's firewall is probably pretty basic at best, and should be configurable on top of that. I really doubt, though, that this is the problem. Search in XP Help for firewall specifics.
Your AV can be disabled temporarily by right clicking on the AV icon in the system tray of the taskbar. Somewhere in there is an option to disable. Re-enable (of course) after you get all your plugins (and if u go to this much trouble, you might as well download them all).

Could ultimately be your ISP, but I doubt it. Check your IE Internet Options and check the Security/Privacy/Content tabs and make sure the settings are not too aggressive (in fact, back them way off).

Fortunately I didn't feel the same way about Windows Media Player!  :-X  ::)

Hi there,

I am running XP-Pro, and unable to download any plugins. Well, not entirely. When I use IE, I get the following response "Invalid package file. Cannot continue. C:\Documents and Settings ... Temporary Internet Files\Content.IE5\...\thenameoftheplugin.mpj"

If I use netscape, I am able to download an mjp file which, when I run it, then connects to the internet and tells me, "package installation successful". But, this package installation does not seem to install anything anywhere.

So, right now I cannot download *any* new plugins.

Any suggestions out there?

Fastyves,

I have extracted the DLL file into my plugins directory, MJ is still not recognizing that the plugin exists.

I go to the 'add plugin' dialog, tell it to add the correct DLL, MJ tells me that it has been installed correctly, yet the plugin has yet to appear.

Any further suggestions? Thanks in advance

If is the same problem few weeks ago you must change a string in the registry, find the post reported

Instead of "Extract the zip file..." just execute the mjp file.  It will use MJ to unzip and install.
