When you look at a list in MC that shows little images, those are thumbnails.

They're built from the file and then stored for speed.

The first time you look at a file, the thumbnail will be built.

Now you can build all the thumbnails at once so you don't wait when viewing a file for the first time.

This doesn't find or get new art -- just catalogs what you've already got.

You need to have your own cover art already in place. MC can get this from the internet with
Tools->Image->Get From Internet
However, MC needs to scale these down to thmbnail size and it does this while your browsing around. In addition, MC will take a frame from the first second of a video file and scale this down to be a thumbnail. It only needs to do this once, but doing it while you're browsing around can really slow things down. Build Missing Thumbnails just does all the scaling and video frame grabbing in one go so you can leave it to finish, then browse around much more quickly. It's most useful when building a new library or changing thumbnail size.

No MC doesn't mess with your file tags without you telling it to.

When saving a tag, MC writes the tool and version.  This allows us to handle upgrades and fix problems easier.  It's 20 bytes well spent.
