Combining fields in Media Center
« on: June 02, 2004, 04:50:02 pm »

This is a Media Center question not Nomad, so hear me out...
I have a nomad zen xtr and want to be able to play music based on year and peak position that year.
As an example:
All 01 hits in 1960
I currently have
"Top 40" in Genre
"01" in Comment 1
"1960" in year.
this is not a problem in Media Center, but some of the fields are not supported in Nomad so
I want to combine the year comment1 and genre field into the genre field and have
"Top 40-1960-01"
Then I would be able to get that granularity in Nomad.
BUT
This does limit my ability to look at this info in other ways......
what about country charts and those that charted both in top 40 and country......
I am just looking for ideas...

The question is...........................
how would i combine fields in Media Center automatically.  as the example above states?

Thanks for all your great support.  What a wonderful product.  It appears to be working with my Nomad.

You can create a calculated field like [Genre] - [Comment 1] - [Year].

Then can then use the "Move / Copy Fields" tool to copy those values to any field you like.

That would work fine.

How do you create a calculated field?

then move it to another field?

Thanks

Matt,

I ran into a problem when trying to use copy / move field for a calculated field as the calculated field does not show up in the list.  I need to move the value of that calculated field (combine) to save-combine  then move genre to save-genre then finally move save-combine to genre.
Save-combine is a calculated field containging 1986-06 for year and chart level it reached that year.  I made combine a calculated field by combining comment (my charted field) and date (year) my date field that contains the date that the song charted. [comment]-[date (year)].

How do I copy the results to another saved field???

Save-combine is a calculated field...

You can't copy/move data into a calculated field. It is automatically filled by your "Calculated data template"
Having said that, it seems like a bug that calculated field don't show up in the "Copy from" list. You might want to start a new topic on this, or enter it as a bug in the top thread in this forum (the one that announces a new build)

Agreed.  We'll see what we can do.
