Hi all,

My laptop crashed and I am attempting to restore to a new computer, and also change the drive letter and folder name.  I can easily import the 2000 plus songs to MJ, but how do I update MJ to the altered link?

If you have backups of the songs and the MJ database, you don't even need to reimport. Open the Library Manager and make as if to create a new database. Give the path name as where you restored the database files to. MJ will not overwrite them and will load that database.
Then, do File Properties on all your files. Click
Tools->Find and Replace
Check Location and Image Path and do a replacement like
Find what : C:\Audio\
Replace : D:\Music\
or whatever. When you click save, make MJ update the database only, not move the files. They should then all point to the new location

I have found that it is much easier to simply remove the 'entries' from the database, and allow MJ to re-search for the media files. Im my case, I have well over 5000 titles... I dont think the answer is to go to each record, and update its property/location...

but if you reimport them all you lose all of your play counts, ratings, etc, hence your smartlists as well.

Your Find/Replace technique works perfectly.  Thanks for the help.  

And just a clarification - you can do a one-step find/replace for the entire database.  Do this by highlighting entire database (at media library - press ctrl. A), Right click, Properties, and then do a find/replace for the entire database.  Beautiful thing.....

That last tidbit is very good to know.  But I will forget it.  Is it in the Help or FAQ?  I will probably be moving the library on one of my machines in the next couple of months.

Also, I assume it works for MJ8, since we are in this forum?
