Media Center 11.0.12 Alpha (NOT RECOMMENDED)
« on: July 02, 2004, 11:58:29 am »

We're just starting work on Media Center 11.  From time to time, we'll share our progress.

Think of these early builds like the hole in the ground before you start building a house.  Much like the hole, it's hard to get excited about these builds, and if you're not careful with them, you'll get hurt.

This is the first build after major changes to allow guest users and side-by-side installs of MC.  You will lose your settings.  Some plugins will not work.  Side-by-side installs are not functioning yet.  There may still be tools in the patient.  Please wait a few builds if you're not ready for problems.

ftp://ftp.jriver.com/pub/downloads/music/MediaCenter110012.exe

11.0.12 (7/2/04)

1. Fixed: Playing video streams in two zones at once could cause problems when using the WMP engine instead of the DirectX engine.
2. Changed: Album analysis only runs after changes instead of every start of MC, which helps speed with large libraries.
3. Fixed: Album analyzer could incorrectly call some albums a mix.
4. Fixed: DirectSound playback could throw a "too much spent data" when pausing playback.
5. Fixed: MC's EXIF analyzer could fail on some images after they were edited by Photoshop.
6. Fixed: WMA decoder would not always output the last millisecond of data during conversion. (due to a Microsoft bug)
7. Fixed: OGG encoder would capitalize its extension as "OGG" instead of "ogg".
8. NEW: Media Center runs without power user / administrative priveleges.
9. Changed: All user specific settings should remain with each user's account. (before some settings were shared)

Kudo's on #7. If it was a plugin fix, I am hoping it will be included in V10.0.150. Did the core Vorbis encoder get updated to v1.01?

Since the settings were reset to default I went through and was updating them.  When I changed the default encoder under Encoding options to APE, MC crashed.  I restarted and changed it to APE again MC just closed.  The next time I opened it, APE was already selected,

Importing Files...

Didn't this used to eliminate the red x's when you used the import, Providing that the advanced items were checked?

If so, it's not doing that anymore.

No problems with the download link here. I am just downloading it.

This is my first try for it. I am going install it to my secondary PC (a laptop).

I have some questions in my mind: Should I uninstall MC 10 first? How about library? Can it import my old Library? Is it working as a Client with a MC 10 Media Server?
Probably I find the answers soon, because I am going to do a MC 11 search here.

It would easier to jump into the wagon if there was a separate MC 11 forum. Then it would be easier to read all the discussion about it. I thought the same when MC10 was in the alpha/beta stage.

It is not as easy as I thought.

I did a "Match as phrase" search for "Media Center 11" subject and I got one huge page with 188 messages.

It would nice to see them as separate threads and read some of them in each thread. It would be so if there was a Media Center 11 Forum.

Thanks for the quick APE fix!

MC is covering my task bar (autohide/always on top).  If I switch away from MC, it works like it should, but MC almost always covers it up, or prevents it from coming out of autohide.

Also, when I perform an Import, I get a dialog box that says it cannot find the .flac encoder.  Is there an updated flac encoder that I need to download?

I have v118 too. Cool.

Bug: when 'converting formats' it tells me the mp3 plugin isn't installed (enc_mp3.dll is there though.) when I try to install the mp3 encoder I get a runtime error by mediacenter 11\PackageInstaller.exe

Bug2: In action windows:
Handheld player -->Transfer files-->Options
and check file conversation and chose mp3 vbr; custom and click options WMA option is shown. No line shown to enter --aps

After importing has finished and you get the results, can the time that it took to finish be shown in hh:mm:ss

Seeing 1712 seconds is kinda useless.

Thanks

One thing that bugs me...

When I use /PlayReplace, the view in Playing now doesn't reset to the top. So the playlist starts but it's in the middle of the list. I mean the current track is off the screen.

I just tried to run this version and I got a window saying that it had timed out (expired?).  I could have sworn that when I installed it it said it would expire on 8/1/2004.  Reinstalling fixed it.

EDIT:  Reinstalling didn't actually fix it.  It just let me run it one time.  The setup file needs to be run each time I want to run MC.

Thanks for the reports.  Like we said, this build would be a little bumpy.

Hopefully the next couple builds will get everything running smoothly again.

Hello,

Is it possible that G-Force Gold is not working with this latest beta. I did a clean install of 11.0.12 just to make sure... The latest version of G-Force Gold doesn't detect a valid player and won't install.

Thanks.

It's because there's parts installed in the Media Center folder and the Media Center 11 folder.
That's why plugins and skins don't work...

I think you'll find you're launching from an old shortcut that doesn't point to the new "Media Center 11" directory.

Yup.  I just happened to check the Quickstart icon about 30 minutes ago and saw that it was pointing to the wrong directory.  I guess what threw me off was that previous installs (I think) were installing the quickstart icon.  I figured that the installer for 11 would update it.

If you've installed a previous alpha, please uninstall it.

It will cause problems having two MC 11's installed at once.

It'd be best if you uninstalled the old copy first.

Otherwise, you'll have orphaned keys in the registry since everything moved.

MC11 expired while I was away over the weekend, and I returned to find my internet connection was down, so I installed MC10.149 over the top of MC11.

Upon getting my internet back and reading the above post I tried to uninstall MC11, however it uninstalled MC10 instead and will not allow me to uninstall MC11 even after a re-boot.

EDIT: Upon firther investigation I find that the MC program files are gone for both versions, even though MC11 still appears in my Control Panel's Add/Delete Programs window.

Yea, there's definitely a problem with MC11's uninstall routine.  After seeing Matt's post above about problems with two versions of 1 being installed, I decided to remove them and start fresh.  MC11's entry in the add/remove program list did nothing when I clicked uninstall.  I also tried running the uninstall from the MC11 program group, but it did nothing as well.

I ended up manually deleting MC11 and removing any references to "Media Center" and "MediaJukebox" from my registry.
