buffering with media server (not media central)
« on: July 23, 2004, 10:17:00 am »

I'm running JB 8.0 and trying to use Media server from my home server when I'm at work. I've confirmed that my upload speeds are in excess of 200Kbps but JB can't seem to stream a single song without having to buffer every 10 seconds. Obviously, this isn't working too well for me.

Has this been improved in later versions or in Media Center. Is this working for anyone else?

What kind of file are you streaming? Mp3? Ape?

There could be a bottleneck at work as well...

I'm streaming MP3s. Mostly these are encoded at 192 or less.

The pipe @ work is very fast, so I'd be suprised that's the problem.

I don't think it's media server. Try some more extensive bandwidth tests (create a huge file, transfer it, and see how close to optimal time you get). What you are looking for is pauses. This could be caused at work by someone else doing a download.
