Moving Smartlists between libraries?
« on: July 31, 2004, 01:04:24 am »

Is it possible to move Smartlists between libraries? I don't want to move the music files but rather the Smartlist criteria settings.

In other words, I've got about 30 Smartlist on computer A and I'd like to move the Smartlists to computer B. But, on computer B, the Smartlists will show a different result set in each Smartlist.

How do I move the Smartlists without recreating them?

Regards,

I don't think there is any one file you can move--I could be wrong--but if all else fails, you can just do the copy-and-paste thing. :)

For just 30 lists, it shouldn't take you more than 10-15 minutes, tops. ;)

Just open up a text editor, and then in MC, one by one, select the smartlist, copy the criteria in the search bar (highlight/Ctrl-C), and then paste into your text file.

Take this file to the other machine and reverse the process.

you could try to copy the file playlistx.jmd thats on computera\J River\Media Center\Data

and put it in computerb\J River\Media Center\Data

restart mc on computer B, playlists from A should be there.I'm guessing this might work.

if you replace this file on computer B, it will overwrite it, so you will lose any playlists already created on B. I suggest making a backup of the file on computer b beofre rewriting it with the version from computer A.
