MC default media player - use special keyboard keys

How can I set MC as my default media player in XPSP2? there is a "set program defaults" in the add/remove programs section but I'm not clear how to choose MC - so far only WMP and Real appear as options.

One of the things I'd like to make happen is to use the extra "media" keys I have on my Microsoft Bluetooth keyboard to control MC. So far, if I press the "play"key - even if MC is running - it will start a new WMP window.  I think this worked in the past with MC but not sure how to make it work again...thanks Antonio
