Updating library to match external changes

I'm a little worried about MC updating the library to match external changes. Whos to say that the way the files are in MC arent how i want them. Maybe I want MC to force my files  read the way the do in the library. Or maybe I just dont understand the process well enough. Please someone enlighten me.

And how can i tell what exactly MC has changed, after the import has finished?
