Suggestion: Special Viewscheme for playlists
« on: September 21, 2004, 08:24:39 am »

So I was thinking and:

How about making a special viewscheme independant of the audio, video, documents and images viewschemes.

This new viewscheme would ignore the contents of the previous viewcheme instead of doing any kind of filtering if it is left at its default "all" state.

This would mean that we could browse different playlist groups by pane (therefore horizontally rather than vertically) which would I think, make browsing playlists much more intuitive and comfortable.

What ja think? Good idea isnt it. Go on... :)

Yes, I think park is right.

If we could add a field "Playlist Group" to a View Scheme and then add Playlists,  Smartlists and other Playlist groups to those groups, we would be able to select playlists/smartlists the same way we select other media. That would add a lot of consistency to the Media Library.

I think Playlists and Smartlists should be treated equivalently as special media types.

what's wrong with the way we can do it now? there is a playlist field that does add groups.

the only things that don't work is random items and sorting.

at the moment, adding more than one playlist group to the view scheme is impossible. only the files that are collected for the first pane get through to the second pane. so the files that show up for any playlist in the second pane or thereafter are not the same as if they were browsed by using the playlists in the tree. (as i understand things).

also, that sorting issue can be a major pain in the ***. often the way the files are sorted is the reason you use a playlist or smartlist in the first place.
