Can't import vob files
« on: November 29, 2004, 06:57:34 pm »

Hi,

I'm using Media Center 10.0.155. I'm trying to import some .vob files, but Media Center won't recognize them. It doesn't find them when I Import Media, and if I try to Open Media File I get "Warning - Please select file(s) to play."

They play fine in other programs (like Power DVD). They're just individual .vobs, not part of a full DVD. Can these even be imported into Media Center?

If anyone can suggest anything, I'd appreciate it.

Also, I just upgraded to 10.0.173, and it didn't fix it.

I'm not sure, but I think I remember that this is something that was added in v11 (playing VOB files directly).  However, since VOB files are basically just muxed MPEG2 files, you should be able to rename the file from .vob to .mpg and they should play in MC just fine.

You will need an appropriate MPEG2 codec of course.  If you need one of these just to a google search or look on http://www.doom9.net/ (if the files won't render in Windows Media Player then probably MC can't play them because you need a codec).
