Library Server & iTunes files
« on: December 01, 2004, 02:06:16 pm »

First, I'll say I love the new Library Server setup. Even if I had to struggle with stupid Norton Systemworks 2005 to get it to let MC through. grrr

But, obviously one big downside is that it cannot serve up iTunes songs.  I don't recall having this problem with Media Server. So, am I correct in hoping that this is merely a temporary situation and soon I'll be able to listen to iTunes songs through Library Server? I'm using v. 133

thanks.

I don't believe Media Server works with Apple's encrypted tracks or with AAC, in general.

Uh, does that mean I'll never be able to listen to iTunes files via Library Server? That's going to be a bigger and bigger problem as my collection grows as I've stopped buying physical CDs.

Or is this something you're working on? I'm not technical, so I don't really understand why files that play perfectly well in MC do not play in MC via Library Server.

Sorry, haven't had a chance to look at this yet.

Probably, what is happening is that the files have a "license" attached that tell us what we can and cannot do. We can play them on the local machine, but not stream them to another machine.
I'm not 100% sure, but this is probably what is happening.

Yes, this worked in Media Server but no longer works with Library Server.  I miss this function with the newer plugin.
