Ripped files still won't play!
« on: January 01, 2005, 09:12:06 am »

Hi all

I am having continued problems in playing CD's, (I have to take off digital playback to get them to play), and I cannot get ripped files to the hard drive to play. I ripped them using the OGG system. I have upgraded to MC 9.1.319. Upgraded my RAM from 128 to 384. My sound card and speakers are ok, as they play cd's.

Is this a bub in the program?

Many thanks

Can you play any type of file on your hard drive?  If so, what types?

Today I encountered also a strange problem. I can't play my songs anymore. I get the MC message "The media type of the selected files are not supperted for playback. [<none>]"

How come ?

Hi JimH

No music files on the hard drive will play. I have tried ripped cd's, mp3 and asf.

My photo's are ok, just for a completly different media.

To play a CD, I have to take off digital playback in MC and take off digital Audio in Control Panel on my computer.

I have included all the system info, below.

Thanks for your help.

Check your playback options under MC settings.

Also check that you don't have the volume muted.

Could you please tell me where the playback options are please.

I have looked, but can only find playback options in the tools menu.

Many thanks

That's where the options are.  Did you try changing any?

Directshow vs wav out, for example.

Hi

Ripped files will not play on any program. I ripped the files using the wma file extension. The programs I used to play the files were: J Rivers and Wndows Media Player.

Many thanks

You may just have problems with the sound system altogether on your PC.  Can you play sounds from control panel/sounds?

If not,
possibilities are:
speakers are plugged into wrong jack -- use a pair of headphones to test
speakers have no power
volume control is muted -- check windows controls by double clicking on speaker icon in lower right corner of desktop.
wave volume is muted or set low
wrong sound device is used -- disable or enable sound in BIOS
