All my m4p files were deleted
« on: January 14, 2005, 04:37:02 pm »

After a recent sync using 173, all of my m4p files were deleted. I can't download them again, according the apple store. I haven't used iTunes in about a week, and I can only assume it was MC that deleted them. My backup from last night doesn't have them either. Obviously, I'm screwed, but how can I avoid this in the future?

I was able to salvage them off the iPod. Any ideas what might have happened?

ben,

Deleted from your PC? I do not see a way for MC to do this. From your iPod, yes if 'Delete unselected files' is checked.  Sorry you lost your files, but I do not think MC is the culprit.

Have you done a system-wide search for your m4p files?  (Click on desktop, press F3, search for "*.m4p", and select "All Local Drives" in the "Look in..." field.)

I'm just wondering if iTunes moved the files behind your back.  :)

Nope, I thought of that, and like I said, I had not opened iTunes in about a week.
Something wonky happened after an iPod sync with MC build 11.173.

I didn't think so either, maybe it was my backup software (SyncBack), but I checked the logs, and there was nothing really obvious there. I guess it's all moot since I got the files back. Sorry for the quick jump to blame MC, but nothing else touches my music files.
