Long time ago my media center run´s without a problem..but now..every time i have a overun time error in version 10....i dont understand it...
please help me...

well, i have deinstalled mediacenter 10 and delete the folder in the C:/Programme/jriver...
an then i installed mediacenter 10 again....

it seems the problem is solved

maybee...i hope so....

i dont´t have change anything in the past.....maybe the only way is to deinstall mediacenter complett and install again...with new registration...

but how can i deinstall complett ? When i deinstall about Windows XP the the uninstall seems incomplett..because by the next installation is my registration info available again...

I don't think it has anything to do with your registration information. I think it is the only thing that will remain after you have done a complete uninstall.

What are you doing with MC when the "buffer overrun" appears? Can you repeat it by doing exactly the same? What is the exact wording of the error message? You could also post here your System Info from MC Help menu (paste it from clipboard).

Yes it happen again exactly the same way...
I can use the mediacenter..but if i click on the error message then mediacenter is closing....

Are you just listening to the music or doing something else, for example: tagging, ripping, importing, etc? Are you using visualizations?

Perhaps somebody from JRiver can answer what is the connection between MC and the "Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library".

i have read in the internet by google...and i read that the buffer overrun maybe something to do with the security settings in Windows XP Service Pack 2.

I have done the settings...i dont know the german word......and now i dont have at this time the problem again.....

i will observe the problem...the question is...is the problem now solved..........i hope so

I noticed that the installed version is 10.0.173

The error says \Media Center 11\Media Center.exe

Did you try and install version 11 and then decide to go back to 10?

the version 11 is not the point...it was a error by myself, a copy from the clipboard by another thread here in the group.....

in my case, it is version 10........

the problem is not solved...i have restart my computer and now the problem is here again...

I was cautious to install Service Pack 2 and have not done that yet. As far as I understand the important changes are mainly in some security areas and because I am already using a hardware NAT router firewall and also software firewalls on each PC I feel that there is no need to encounter possible new problems.

This may be one of them. Microsoft seems to have that DEP problem with numerous of their own software. Since it's not my concern at the moment I haven't properly read the MS articles, but perhaps some of the solutions given there are also valid with MC.

I think this is a different issue. The DEP issues can also be unrelated, though sometimes they are mentioned together with the "Buffer Overrun" error. This Google search finds many hits: "Buffer Overrun" "Visual C++ Runtime Library".

What entries are being left in the Application and the System event logs?

What apps do you have installed?

Have you visited the Windows Update site? More than once? It takes several visits for some machines to become fully updated.

And, as Jim alluded, what is your machine name?

I see you have an AMD CPU. SP2 uses hardware for DEP with those I think.
No matter, you can disable DEP completely. If that allows MC to run, then enable DEP for only Windows processes, that is also an option.

i have deinstalled the logitech webcam software...the cam symbol who start in the background...

the error windows with buffer overrun not comes at this time......

Does it work if you don't install SP2?

I've not yet seen programs that actually need or run better with SP2. In my opinion SP1 is good enough for now. If you need added security you'd be better of with a separate firewall software. (For example, Zonelabs and Kerio have free versions.)

I'm not saying that if there is a problem with MC & SP2 & some hardware/software combinations the problem shouldn't be fixed if possible. Most users will install SP2 eventually.

Spyware Removal
Virus Checkers
Pop-up blockers

Normally you give pretty good advice and info.

On this I believe you are incorrect.

SP2 is NOT simply a security patch, though it has quite a number of items dealing with security. Perhaps Microsoft made a mistake in "selling' SP2 via the security addons.

As with any Service Pack, there are numerous items that deal with system stability, device fixes (like firewire errors), file access across networks, etc. All the hotfixes since the SP1 are included.

You are probably right. I was thinking just my stable systems and the programs I use. I have also installed most of the fixes and it is quite different than having a vanilla SP1.

I have not heard about programs that need SP2, but I used the words "in my opinion" and "for now" since the situation can change any time.

This question remains unanswered. Programmers should know if the error message is valid and tells something. We users can only guess.

I see this is proving to be an elusive beast. I thought I'd chime in that I'm getting the same error. The error itself seems to have no effect on MC, but pressing OK or closing the window closes MC. Also I get a slew of boxes (estimate 10-20 tilled).

Note that I get this on my server (Windows 2003 Server Standard), where I don't play anything just serve via the Library server (with Transcoding to Vorbis).

FYI, I've been running with 302 and have seen it again, 3 more times to be specific. I've got a log for you (is there any way to attach a file?) I currently have it transcoding to Vorbis - Normal. I'll try none for a while and see what happens.

I was having problems with Buffer overrun errors and I was able to prevent the errors by shutting down Library Server. With Library Server running MC would just randomly crash, without anyone ever trying to connect (I think

).

I installed the latest version of MC and noticed that the files in \Program Files\J River\Media Center 11\ were not so new so I deleted the folder cleaned out the registry and reinstalled again. Files look newer and no crashes. Been running all day with no errors and Library Server running, its been a couple weeks since I could do that.
