Handheld Initialize Times
« on: March 01, 2005, 08:18:36 pm »

MC 11.0.201

iRiver ihp140 took at least 45 minuites to initialize.  This has always been the case with mc11.  It is a 40gb drive half full with about 13000 mp3 files.  The Rio Carbon is 5gb and can take 20 minutes to initialize.  This is the case on either my desktop or notebook pc both running xp pro.

Why is it that I can open all these folders on the handhelds in Windows Explorer instantly?  What is mc11 trying to do in its 'initialization' phase?

Look on your device and see if there is a file called 'Database.mpl'. If there is, the initialization should be quick. If there is not, the first initialization should take a while and prompt you about building a database file.

I trust you are following the other thread I have going on this subject, perhaps move this there.

The ihp140 and Carbon have database.mpl files.  This does not change the load times in mc11.  Should I delete these files and is it safe to do so?  The dates on them are current so I assume they are in good shape because the handhelds have no problems.

This issue should be resolved in the next MC build.
