Duplicate tracks on Ipod
« on: April 02, 2005, 02:47:43 am »

If I make changes to the tags of a mp3 file (to correct a spelling mistake for example) when I synchronize my iPod, a new version of the file gets copied but the old one is not removed. Is there anyway around this?

Paul,

If you enable the synchronization option for 'Remove unselected tracks' this will remove the track from iPod. It will also remove any files that are not selected for your sync.

Thanks for the reply Steve, although I'm almost certain that option was ticked when I last synced (it certainly is now). However I'll try it again on the latest build and see if I still get the problem.

I'm still getting this problem and I have made sure that 'Remove unselected tracks' option is definitely ticked. Is there anything else I can check to see why this happening for me?

it must have been broken recently because I've seen it work before, somewhere in the 11.0.220s... Hope it'll get fixed soon because it doesn't simply leave duplicates on the iPod but also all the tracks you didn't select for sync and thus should be erased from the iPod.

ok, I figured the problem is not due to any particular version of MC. I've just completely uninstalled and reinstalled sucessively all versions since 228 to try and find out after which version the option didn't work. Well, guess what: I reached 232 and it still works fine. Before I did this I had tried everything and it didn't solve the problem: rebuilding the db from the ipod, reinitializing the iPod and retransfering all the files, nothing worked. Apparently, the only way to get the 'Remove unselected tracks' option to work is to completely uninstall MC and reinstall 232.

Paul, I recommend you do that and let us know if that fixed the problem for you too.

Thanks IOth.

Alternately, go to your registry under Current_User\JRiver\Media Center11\Properties and look for 'Handheld - Sync delete files'. Remove this setting. It no longer is used but maybe is still hanging around causing trouble.

by the way, I forgot to add that it's now the 'sync data' option that doesn't seem to work for me in 232. I've checked the option but neither the number of plays or the last played field is updated when I sync the iPod.

Well I tried the simpler option first and deleted the registry key as Steve suggested and I'm pleased to say it's working correctly again!

I went back to 231 and the 'sync data' option is still not working. Is that something that can be fixed in the registry too?

thanks.

This was driving me crazy. I went back to reinstalling 230 and still couldn't get it to work, I just can't figure why.
