Add Burning lists into "Recent CD Burns"
« on: May 22, 2005, 05:22:04 am »

Hi,
just yesterday MC (Media Center Registered 11.0.274, Burning /  Drive H: _NEC     DVD_RW ND-3500AG   Addr: 1:0:0  Speed:24  MaxSpeed:24  BurnProof:Yes) crashed again, when I tried to burn a cd. It crashed right when it was supposed to start burning, so I lost my whole burning queue that I put together from different places in a 30 minute work.

Of course beside making MC more robust to such issues, I suggest following enhancement:

MC should add each cd burning list into a new folder called "Recent CD Burns" , just like it's done for "Playing recent nows". The moment I hit "Burn" it should create a playlist and add it to the folder, so it could be recovered at any time later.

This would have the advantage that a CD could be burnt a second time later, even after MC had been restarted. And it will reduce the frustration if MC should crash during the burning process.

Thanks
Dom

Why not create a playlist first and burn it onto CD.
After a succesfull burn you could remove it if you wish.

Right, that works as a work around and that is what I have to do now. But it will not recover the burning lists where I forgot to make a playlists first. Is that really how it supposed to work? Always create a playlist, just to make a cd?

Having it automatically created will remove such work and make sure thousands of MC users won't have to always create a playlist for burning lists, since the backup is created in the background.
This is just a usability feature and it seems easy enough to implement, since it is no real new feature, no one mindes if the "playing nows" folder also includes burning lists ...  ;)

Indeed, it was ment as a workaround.
I think your idea of adding 'Recent CD Burns' is a nice additional feature.

Are we really the only two, that would appreciate this feature?  ::)
The ability to go back to previous burns would allow to see what has been burnt at any time later and really allow to recover a burning list after MC crashed or if it closed for whatever reason, maybe it would also be useful to create a cd labels later on. Any chance of getting this into MC?

Thanks guys.

I could see a lot of uses for this.... I burn a lot of cd's for my car, and I try to keep those in a play list so I can remember what's burnt and what isn't. I just don't always remember......
