Unfortunately I had to rebuild my iPod database a few times. I use uncompressed WAV for 5 stars and 4 stars with 320MP3 and further down.

After rebuilding the database I lose all the WAV information. How can I prevent this from happening. Or is it a bug or not having an ID3 tag.

Can I use the apple lossless format with MC, if so which codec do I need to use. Or is it default installed.

It is not having the ID3 tag. When you rebuild, MC reanalyzes the files and creates the database from that information.

It depnds on what you mean. You can transfer aac, m4p,  and mp4 files to iPod. You can play these within MC if you have Quicktime installed. We use Quicktime to play these files in MC.

How do I convert from ape to these formats. There's only the option of using MP3 and WAV. Even on my iRiver which support Ogg Vorbis I don't get that option anymore. It used to be there a lot of versions ago.

Which on is lossless (with tag info), aac or mp4. If not lossless, the least of compression, thus best sound quality.

MC does not provide a native way to convert to AAC. Search the boards and there are some suggestions on how to do this.

Even on my iRiver which support Ogg Vorbis I don't get that option anymore.

Which iRiver? I can enable it for Ogg conversion if I know the exact device name. Conversion options are controlled by an internal table which I will need to update for you.

I have the "iHP-140". The Ogg option used to be there. But it's gone 
Think it's a better option to enable it for the H-series.

Maybe it's a good thing to provide a native MC conversion for lossless formats to an iPod. The device will be used more and more in carsystems.

Think it's a must for MC to support this. So far I haven't been able to upload compressed lossless music to the iPod without losing information. Alle things like album and artist are gone.

I select all my 5 star music (ape format) and then converted this to WAV. Use iTunes to convert to m4a (lousy compression ratio). As soon as the song is back to WAV all databaseinfo is gone.

Uploading to the iPod with MC is fast, no conversion. Can't seem to get this done with iTunes. It's no option to start using iTunes to upload songs from the original CD to the iPod.

Have searched this board but no solution yet

First I thought you had the solution for putting lossless music on the iPod. Bit disappointed but it works. I am uploading Ogg Vorbis at this very moment.

What about the other thing ?

What format do you want the files in AAC? We can't do it natively. wav? That should work.

Yep, lossless to iPod.

Off course ape would be supercool. unfortunately the iPod can't handle that. Which handheld can  ?. But the lossless Apple format, I believe m4a, would be cool. I want to use that for my songs rated 5-stars.

I used wav first but that takes up to many space. And I lose all the tagging information if I upload m4a via MC instead of iTunes. Or do you have another solution for fixing this.

You will have to do the conversions to AAC with a 3rd party application. Check the boards, as I think there are suggestions on this.
