Media Center 11 has support for the UPnP Protocol

I've improved the Server response time for Roku - it still was timing out under certain circumstances (such as a large number of Genres).

Instructions for using the UPnP Server
Click on Plug-ins in MC's tree, then on UPnP Server. On the right side of the UPnP Server page, set "Options" and then click on "Start" to start the server.

If a media receiver is already on the network, and the server is started, the receiver should pick up the server right away. When a media receiver is first turned on, if the server is already started, the receiver should pick up the server. Some receivers may not do both correctly, so try both.

If you cannot see your view scheme, make sure that:
1) The View Scheme is selected to Show in Theater View (under Edit View Scheme).
2) The View Scheme is a child of "Audio", "Images" or "Video".

Options
You can convert files to other formats (such as MP3 or WMA) as they are streamed. See Options on the UPnP page.

If you have multiple network interfaces on your computer, such as an ethernet and a bluetooth interface, you may need to specify the IP address the UPnP server uses (it will only listen on a single interface, and may choose the one the device is not on).

Unless you are reporting log information here, you can turn off many warings by unchecking "Warn on unrecognized NOTIFY".

There are a set of options handling the different devices. Normally, you should select Receiver: Automatic Detection. If this does not correctly identify your UPnP device (it reports the device detected on the message page), then choose the device name. If your device name is not present, choose
Advanced and use the five special cases:

1. "Replace Empty Genre" is required for the NETGEAR MP101, and possibly others. It replaces blank genres with "Unknown". The MP101 will otherwise refuse to play tracks with blank genres.

2. "Use Flat URLs" is required for the SMC EZ Stream and the Terratec Noxon. These receivers cannot handle complex URLs (internal to the protocol) and this hack changes the URLs to simpler ones.

3. "Include SessionID" must be turned off for Roku. It may be required for others. If you know of a device that requires it, please let me know.

4. "No server header" must be turned on for the D-Link DSM 320. It stops the emission of an HTTP Server header.

5. "Allow Visual Content" should be turned on for devices that can display pictures or movies. Otherwise the top level of the library will be restricted to audio and playlists.

6. "Filter International Characters" replaces International Characters with a 7 bit replacement.

7. "Skip Child Count" prevents reporting of the number of children each child has. This is required for the Roku, which asks for a large number of children (450) and getting the number of children is expensive. It is contrary to the UPnP Spec, so only use it if needed.

A log is generated on the UPnP Server page in MC. If you have a UPnP device that doesn't work, you can copy the log from MC's UPnP Server (under the tree/plug-ins) and paste it into a thread here. Make sure the "Warn on unrecognized NOTIFY" option is selected before creating the log.

Thanks for the update, but if you have access to a Buffalo LinkTheater, you may want to check against that -- what ever changed broke that. Now the LinkTheater just says "No files found".

The buffalo works fine if you specify the receiver type. It looks like it has recently changed the string I use for autodetection, so that no longer works. I'll take a look...

I just installed 110306 and for the first time I can browse artist/album on my Roku M1000!

I'm testing with the MacSense HomePod now and MC 11.308. This latest version of UPnP is working pretty well. The last time I checked I had a Roku Soundbridge and HomePod to compare against. The HomePod worked better, but still had some problems on playback. It would stop playing sometimes. Right now I'm testing with single album, single artist and it works well. It did have a problem with an artist with multiple albums. I'll do more testing to nail that one it down. It seemed to be playing, but the sound stopped. It may have been a problem with the HomePod. There were no error message from the MC UPnP server.

Anyway, there are a couple of other minor issues. One, the Artist name does not show up. The song title does though. Also, auto-detect is not picking up the device. I get this message -

Is there a manual setting I might try?

BTW, my database of MP3's is about 14,000.

Well, I haven't been able to crash the HomePod today. I've gone through about 5 hours from one artist without a hitch. Any chance of getting the HomePod on your list of devices automatically detected?

I just picked up the netgear DMS-320 today.

I've got it working somewhat, hardwired by the way with firmware 1.05.

At first my playlists weren't going from one song to the next, seems to be working at the moment. Don't think I changed anything but who knows. I think I rebooted.

Photos aren't advancing automatically after the 1 second delay I have set in the netgear setup. Also would be nice to be able to browse by folder instead of just years and months.

Videos are a no go, they work okay with the supplied server but either don't play at all or have major lags when trying to play with little to no audio. The server screen in MC 11 (build 309) goes crazy and seems to keep trying to open the file. These files play fine using two other servers that I have tried.

I like organizing everything in Media Center so it would be awesome to get this working better. I got tired of the crummy sound through my tivo. My music is mostly WMA and the transcoding coupled with the analog only was not souding too good. The netgear with the optical digital output seems to be a nice improvement.

The netgear unit seems to come and go on whether it wants to see the server or not. I have tried wired and wireless and no difference. This is true for TVersity and the included netgear server. At least with MC if I stop and start the server it will usually show back up and I can connect.

Not at the moment, I'm using the User-Agent header, and it appears that the HomePod does not provide one.

I have the server set to the Dlink in the UPnP server settings. I'll try setting the delay longer on the pictures to see if that works.

Does the Philips device show up at all on your TV screen? If not, check the cables, the physical inputs you've connected to, and the input selection on the TV. You should see the Philips screen on the TV. MC's library will show up on its menu.

No the menu does not show up on the TV, in fact all I get is a blue screen. I did check the cables, all appears in order.
Again, I did not install the streamium software as I understood it was not needed to work with MC11.
On my TV remote I have only the TV/catv button and it switched when I push the button.
What channel should I be on???

You don't need the Streamium software installed on the PC. When you turn on the Streamium, it should display a bootup and then a menu of its own.

If you aren't getting that, you're not correctly connected (or less likely -- the Streamium isn't working).

What input are you connected to on the TV? Try others.

Is there only one video output on the Streamium?

There is a button on the Streamium remote that you need to push to turn on the Streamium. The light near the top of the device should turn blue.

The manual for the Streamium should be useful.

No menu on bootup, my guess is it is the TV. I am connected via RCA yellow to yellow and red to red and white to white. but getting nothing. I believe an earlier post said my log showed the sl300i was being recognized, but nothing on the TV. I will try a different TV, but must get a much longer cable first.

The input on the TV should be labeled. What does it say?

The remote for the TV should have a button that says "input" or something similar. Usually you can push it several times to cycle through all the options.

Double check that the yellow cable connectors are in yellow plugs at both ends.

You could hook up a VCR or DVD player to the TV to confirm that the TV side works.

Yes, the tv does work for tv, but still having problems. The TV has a built in VCR so That could also cause the problem. The Yellow cable is connected to input Video on TV and VBS video on back of sl300i. the TV remote has only the tv/catv button that switches back and forth, but nothing comes on the screen.
Let me try another tv first.

The power button on the Streamium's remote does not turn the TV on.

Instead, use the PC Link button immediately underneath the power button (or use the power button on the streamium box).

yes the pc link button turns on the streamium, but does not turn on the TV.
Question, does the streamium have to be plugged into the computer to get a menu on the tv screen? I do not have a cat5 cable long enough to go to my tv, but could move the streamium in by the other tv to test to see if I could get a menu on anything I do believe it is my tv.

Photo playlists are not working, and it's not a simple problem. I'll track this down when I have more time.

You are probably trying to play a non-supported video type. What format are they?

The server recognition problem seems to be on D-Link's side.

Hey, I have the HomePod and the Roku M1000, also. The nice thing with the HomePod is that I have all the source code for it. I am learning how the code is structured now, and intend to improve on it and fix some of these issues. Specifically the issue where only the Track name shows up -- I am posting info over on http://developer.gloolabs.com/modules.php?name=Forums. This is a night-time side project for me, so you'll have to be patient, but I do intend to extend the HomePod. Seems like I am one of the very few...as the forums are completely dead.

So far, the HomePod has been working quite well with UPnP server. I have not had any play-issues. Namely the main issue is the display only shows the track name.

Also, shuffle mode seems to shuffle only an album at a time even when multiple albums have been queued. I want to fix that, also.

The UI for the HomePod kind of sux, too. If you have a huge laundry list of artists A-Z, it takes forever to get to Z...this needs to be fixed.

Got my Netgear MP101 yesterday. Downloaded MC11. 10 mins later I have wireless tunes. Very pleased with the MP101 and the MC uPnP Server.

Is it possible to listen to web radio on the MP101 ?

I have MC10 on my main HTPC (until I upgrade it...) and listen to a few web stations, so it would be nice to be able to listen to them at other locations in the house.

Wish it had been that easy for me! I spent several hours on this yesterday and still can't get the MP101 to see the MC11 UPNP server. I tried Twonkyvision and it worked first try. WinXP Pro SP2, Netgear "MIMO" wireless hub, signal strong.

There's no Netgear MP101 in the dropdown list. Selecting another choice in the list didn't help, so I went back to auto detect. Not getting any errors in the log. But the MP101 just doesn't see it.

Anyone have any hints on what else I might tweak?

There MUST be a "NETGEAR MP101" in the list.

This is in the "Plugins" portion of the tree, under UPnP Server, then
clicking on options, right? What are some of the other entries if the NetGear isn't there?

Sincerest apologies. The MP101 is there. (I wrote that post from work

and was not clearly remembering everything I had tried last night.)

Switched back to MP101 from the dropdown. Stopped and restarted the server. All looked fine - 5 minutes later, I got the errors below, which repeat every thirty minutes exactly. MP101 still can't find the server.

Based on an idea I read somewhere, I tried configuring Norton AntiVirus "Internet Worm" blocker to permit the MC executable - but still no luck.

Any ideas?

I have recently installed the Neuston Media Player and I was extremely pleased to see it connect to the MC11 UPnP. Does anyone else use the MC500 with Media Centre and if so how are you finding the interface navigation?

I think you are on the right path with the firewall stuff. The NetGear should work, it's been working for a long time. If you are running XP, that has a built in firewall.

Hi!

Any new development for fixing the search failures?

The one I mentioned here (http://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php?topic=28140.msg196166#msg196166) is still actual.

The wierd thing is that it happens really in this one custom view, which is one of my smaller views, so it cannot be related to a too long list of files...

Any ideas on this issue?
