MP3 Playback Problems
« on: July 04, 2003, 08:03:59 am »

My new car MP3 player refuses to play about 20% of my MP3s (my cheap old portable player plays them all). I've examined the files in question, and can't see any differences between them and the ones that do play. All are CBR at between 128 and 192. The only clue is that most if not all were downloaded as opposed to ripped. Does anyone have any suggestions? (I'm burning onto Imation CR-RWs with a Lite-On burner...) (Also, I tried two other programs besides MJ and got the same result...)

Thanks in advance!

What encoder encoded the ones that play?

What encoder encoded the ones that don't play?

What Is The Sample rate Of The Ones That Play?

As the non-playing files were downloaded, I don't know what encoder was used. (Is there any way to tell?)  The sample rates vary from 128 to 320. All the files that I encoded myself (using MusicMatch) seem to work fine, as do most other downloaded files.

It's such a drag that my expensive car player is more picky than my $75 portable...

I thought about converting the non-playing files back to .wav & then re-encoding them...might that work?  Would be time consuming, though...
